Brazil Games at GDC 2026: Hands-On with Rogue Reigns and Talaka

Brazilian Games

From deeply strategic deckbuilders to hand-drawn roguelites steeped in folklore, the Brazil Games indie scene is bringing serious heat to the GDC expo floor.

The Game Developers Conference is a global melting pot of talent, but some of the most exciting innovations consistently come from regional showcases. During our time on the GDC expo floor today, March 12th, our team made it a priority to stop by the massive Brazil Games booth.

Serving as a hub to highlight and support independent titles emerging from the rapidly growing South American development scene, the booth was packed with upcoming releases. We spent significant time getting hands-on with two highly anticipated titles: the deckbuilder Rogue Reigns and the breathtakingly hand-drawn action-platformer Talaka.

Here is a breakdown of what we played, the current state of these promising indies, and a quick look at the other major titles Brazil Games brought to San Francisco this week.

Rogue Reigns: Tactical Fantasy Deckbuilding

Developer: Venn Studios Release Date: June 2026

Our first stop was a sit-down with a developer from Venn Studios to check out Rogue Reigns.

Heavily inspired by genre titans like Slay the Spire, Rogue Reigns is aiming to carve out its own personality through a richly illustrated fantasy world. The art style is immediately striking, giving the cards and the enemies a distinct, bold visual direction.

From a mechanical standpoint, the combat felt familiar to anyone who has spent time optimizing a deck in a roguelike setting. While the core loop doesn’t seem to be reinventing the wheel, the success of Rogue Reigns will ultimately depend on the sheer volume of content available at launch. If Venn Studios can deliver enough varied world design to make the different regions feel distinct and tactically unique during fights, this game could easily become a massive time-sink.

Given its scheduled release across PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Mobile in June, we are incredibly eager to see how well it transitions to the Steam Deck.

Talaka: Hand-Drawn Folklore in Motion

Developer: Potato Kid Release Date: TBD

The absolute highlight of our time at the booth was checking out Talaka. Often described as “Dead Cells meets Brazilian culture,” this action-platformer roguelite fuses fast-paced combat with a world deeply inspired by Brazilian folklore, architecture, and myth.

A member of the Potato Kid dev team was kind enough to play through the demo for me, allowing me to fully absorb the mechanics and the jaw-dropping artwork. The combat system is incredibly fluid, featuring multi-directional attacks and challenging encounters. But the main talking point is undeniably the in-depth, expressive hand-drawn animation.

That being said, it is clear that the game is still heavily in development. We noticed a few visual hiccups during the demo:

The developer laughed off the animation gaps, joking that their lead animator desperately needed a break to let their hands recover. Additionally, the demo’s procedural generation seemed to be stuck, forcing us to fight the exact same mini-boss multiple times.

Despite these minor, expected pre-release bugs, the core foundation of Talaka is incredibly strong. Seeing it played so smoothly on a controller gives us massive hope for its future on handhelds.

Other Highlights from the Brazil Games Showcase

While Rogue Reigns and Talaka took up the bulk of our hands-on time, they were far from the only impressive titles on display at the booth. Keep an eye out for these upcoming releases:

EDEN’S FRONTIER (Frontier’s Group Entertainment)

SPORTIA – The Journey (HERMIT CRAB GAME STUDIO)

Paradoxical (Venn Studios)

The Brazilian indie scene is clearly firing on all cylinders. We will track the progress of all these titles as they approach their respective launch dates.
