Citadelum

Abylight Studios brings the acclaimed Roman city builder to Nintendo’s new console next week with 4K resolution and all major updates.

Ave, citizens of Rome. The legions are marching to a new frontier.

Abylight Studios has officially announced that their acclaimed strategy and city-building game, Citadelum, is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22nd, 2026.

The announcement marks a significant milestone for the indie publisher, as Citadelum has been confirmed as one of the first 25 games developed specifically for Nintendo’s successor console. This release comes exactly one year after the game’s successful launch on Steam, where it garnered “Very Positive” reviews.

Next-Gen Portable Strategy

The Switch 2 version isn’t just a port; it’s an upgrade. Abylight Barcelona has optimized the game to fully leverage the new hardware. Players can expect a crisp 1080p resolution in portable mode, ensuring the intricate details of Roman architecture look sharp on the go. When docked, the game targets a stunning 4K output, bringing the empire to life on big screens.

Additionally, the user interface and controls have been completely overhauled for gamepad and portable play, ensuring that managing complex production chains and commanding legions feel intuitive without a mouse or keyboard.

The Full Roman Experience

The Switch 2 edition launches as the definitive package, including all features introduced in the major Version 2.0 “Julius” update. It features deep gameplay options that blend city management with auto-battler combat and mythological intervention. You must build your settlement, establish trade routes, train legions, and manage your relationship with the Pantheon of gods—who will grant divine gifts or unleash wrath depending on your devotion.
