From Green Hell to StarRupture: How Creepy Jar Scored Another Survival Hit

StarRupture - 500k Copies Sold

The creators of Green Hell have struck gold again. StarRupture rockets to #2 on Steam charts, amassing nearly $9 million in revenue and a massive player base in its first 11 days.

The survival genre has a new heavyweight contender. Warsaw-based developer Creepy Jar announced today that its latest title, StarRupture, has sold over 500,000 copies just 11 days after its Early Access launch on January 6, 2026.

Following the massive success of their debut hit Green Hell, the studio has successfully pivoted from the Amazonian jungle to the hostile, lava-streaked surface of Arcadia-7. The sci-fi base-building FPS has not only moved half a million units but also generated over $8.7 million USD in gross sales, cementing it as one of the biggest indie launches of 2026 so far.

An “Out of This World” Debut

The numbers paint a picture of a game that has resonated instantly with the survival community. Since its release, StarRupture has maintained a “Very Positive” reception with an 83% review score on Steam.

The game’s launch performance was nothing short of explosive:

“The interest in our game remains high,” said Grzegorz Piekart, Member of the Management Board of Creepy Jar S.A. “Within just 11 days after its release, we reached the threshold of 500 thousand copies of StarRupture sold on Steam. These results, in particular in terms of revenues and the number of players, significantly exceeded our expectations, which had increased anyway after the intensive end of the marketing campaign.”

The game remained on the Steam Top 10 Bestsellers list for an entire week after its release, competing with established AAA titles.

From Green Hell to Red Planet

For Creepy Jar, this success validates their transition from a single-hit studio to a survival powerhouse. StarRupture represents a significant shift in tone and mechanics from Green Hell, blending automation and tower defense with traditional survival elements.

Krzysztof Kwiatek, President of the Management Board, drew direct comparisons between the two titles’ engagement metrics.

“We have a good game and a great basis to move on,” Kwiatek stated. “We have achieved this with Green Hell, and we believe that we will do the same with StarRupture. Already after such a short time since the release, we can see that in terms of gameplay, StarRupture achieves similar results to Green Hell – nearly 40% of players spent over 10 hours in each game, and the median playtime is similar for both our productions.”

The game’s stickiness suggests that the mining, building, and defending loop against the insectoid “Vermin” hordes is effectively hooking players.

The Road Ahead: Frost, Controllers, and Chaos

Launch day is just the beginning. Creepy Jar has released an ambitious Early Access Roadmap that outlines the future of Arcadia-7. The developers have committed to a steady stream of content updates, balancing patches, and major feature expansions.

Planned Updates Include:

“According to the published roadmap, we are preparing the first free content update to StarRupture, which we would like to release within the next two or three months,” Kwiatek added. “We are also gradually addressing players’ feedback – since the premiere, we have already provided two hotfixes that take into account their comments.”

Survive the Cycle

StarRupture tasks players with surviving on a planet torn apart by a “constantly reborn” cycle of cataclysms. Unlike typical survival games, where the environment is static, Arcadia-7 is a ticking time bomb. The star Ruptura periodically erupts, forcing players to build robust industrial complexes that can withstand extreme conditions while defending against waves of alien monsters.

Key Gameplay Features:

For those looking to join the 500,000 other colonists, StarRupture is currently available on Steam Early Access. The game is priced at $19.99, though savvy buyers can still catch the tail end of the 20% launch discount ($15.99) until January 20, 2026.

With a half-million sales in the bag and a roadmap packed with content, Creepy Jar seems poised to turn their second “Hell” into another heavenly success.
