Frosthaven ‘Legacy of the Algox’ Update Arrives Jan 22 with 3 New Classes

Frosthaven

Frosthaven

The second major Frosthaven Early Access update for the digital adaptation adds a massive new storyline, the “Drill,” “Astral,” and “Shackles” classes, and over 25 new quests.

Arc Games and Snapshot Games have officially announced the second major content drop for the Early Access version of Frosthaven. Titled Legacy of the Algox, this substantial update is set to launch on January 22 for both Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Following the defeat of the Unfettered threat in the previous update, Legacy of the Algox turns the party’s attention to the frozen north’s escalating political tensions. With the guidance of an Algox messenger, players must navigate peace talks between rival tribes, hoping to secure cooperation before something “ancient and malevolent” stirs beneath the ice.

New Heroes Join the Fray

For fans of the physical board game, the highlight of this update is the arrival of three highly anticipated advanced classes. While often referred to by their symbols in the tabletop community, the digital update explicitly names them:

These new heroes bring unique playstyles and complex mechanics that promise to shake up party composition and strategy. They join a roster that is rapidly expanding to match the original box’s massive scope.

A Massive Content Injection

Beyond the new faces, Legacy of the Algox is packing a serious amount of content to flesh out the world. The update includes 25+ new quests spread across two new biomes, pitting players against five new bosses.

To aid in these battles, players can unlock 31 new items (both crafted and discovered) and add a new pet to their stable, bringing the total number of discoverable companions to 11.

Digital Adaptation Pedigree

Developed by Snapshot Games—the studio founded by X-COM creator Julian Gollop—Frosthaven aims to be the definitive digital adaptation of Isaac Childress’ record-breaking board game. With Childres on board as a consultant, the game retains the deep, card-based tactical combat of its predecessor, Gloomhaven, while introducing the complex outpost-building mechanics that define the sequel.

Frosthaven is currently available in Early Access. The Legacy of the Algox update will be free for all existing owners when it drops next week.
