The Blue Bomber returns for his 40th anniversary in the 12th mainline entry of the series. Plus: You can design a boss for the game.

The wait for the next chapter in the Mega Man saga is officially over—though fans will have to exercise a bit more patience before playing it. At The Game Awards 2025, Capcom unveiled Mega Man: Dual Override, the 12th mainline installment in the legendary action-platforming series.

Scheduled to launch in 2027, the game will serve as the centerpiece for the franchise’s massive 40th Anniversary celebration. Capcom confirmed a sweeping list of supported platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC via Steam, the Nintendo Switch, and, notably, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Override Challenges

Mega Man: Dual Override promises to bring the classic side-scrolling formula into a “new array of futuristic frontiers.” While gameplay details are still scarce, the official description teases mechanics that involve “springboarding” across levels and “overriding” challenges to blast down legions of robots.

Design a Robot Master

In a nod to the franchise’s community-driven history, Capcom is inviting fans to leave their mark on the new game. Starting this month, the publisher is hosting a special Boss Design Contest. Fans can submit their own concepts for a brand-new Robot Master, and the winning design will be built by Dr. Wily himself to appear in the final game.

Details on how to enter can be found on the contest’s official website.

Celebrate with Mega Man 11

To tide players over during the wait for 2027, Capcom has discounted the previous entry, Mega Man 11, to under $5 USD on all major digital storefronts for a limited time. Additionally, an update going live tonight will add Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish localization to Mega Man 11, expanding accessibility for fans in those regions.

With Mega Man: Dual Override, Resident Evil Requiem, and Pragmata all making waves at The Game Awards, Capcom is setting up a massive release schedule for the next few years.
