Total Mayhem Games brought their highly anticipated asymmetrical co-op puzzler to the show floor. We went hands-on with the demo, and it is shaping up to be the ultimate test of communication.
If there is a golden rule at TheBigBois, it’s this: nothing tests the structural integrity of a friendship quite like an asymmetrical puzzle game.
Our team has been massive fans of the We Were Here series since the very first game dropped, so when we spotted the giant, retro-futuristic banner for We Were Here Tomorrow at PAX East this weekend, we immediately made a beeline for the Total Mayhem Games booth.
After a great, quick chat with the developers on the show floor, we strapped on our headsets, grabbed our controllers, and dove straight into the playable demo. Spoiler alert: the game looks fantastic, runs flawlessly, and will absolutely cause screaming matches with your co-op partner.
Here are our hands-on impressions straight from the convention floor.

Waking Up in Tomorrow
For the uninitiated, the We Were Here franchise is built entirely around two-player, online co-op escape rooms. You and your partner are separated, given different pieces of a massive puzzle, and forced to communicate what you see using strictly in-game walkie-talkies.
We Were Here Tomorrow takes that winning formula and injects it into a brand-new, compelling setting. The demo drops you and your partner into mysterious pods inside a strange, high-tech facility. Guided by a calm, unnerving voice, you are equipped with unique tools and forced to puzzle your way through a series of complex assignments.
Visually, the game is a massive step up. The retro-futuristic aesthetic pops beautifully on screen, leaning into bright, vibrant neon lighting and sleek, advanced technology that contrasts heavily with the dark, medieval castles of the franchise’s earlier entries. From what we played at the booth, the game is already highly optimized, running buttery smooth even in the chaotic environment of the PAX East show floor.
The True Test of Trust
Of course, a We Were Here game is only as good as its puzzles, and Tomorrow is already flexing some incredible asymmetrical design.
Because both Explorers have distinct abilities and completely different perspectives of the environment, you are entirely reliant on your partner’s ability to describe what they are looking at. “No, the other red button!” and “Wait, describe the symbol again?!” were frequent phrases yelled across our demo stations.
The game forces you to become each other’s eyes and ears. When the communication breaks down, the panic immediately sets in. We can confidently confirm that We Were Here Tomorrow will 100% cause friendship issues just like the other titles in the series—and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
More to Come
While Total Mayhem Games is keeping the exact 2026 release date under wraps for now, we won’t have to wait long for more news. The developers confirmed that We Were Here Tomorrow will be part of the upcoming Triple-i Initiative showcase, which returns on April 9th at 9:00 AM PDT.
Until then, you can officially add the game to your Steam wishlist and start deciding which of your friends you want to yell at through a digital walkie-talkie later this year.
