With the March 5th release date just days away, Wishfully Studios gives players a sneak peek into the Wemari Forest. An older, more agile Lana and her loyal companion Mui face new robotic threats.
The wait is almost over for fans of breathtaking, cinematic platformers. With its highly anticipated release arriving this Thursday, March 5th, publisher Thunderful and developer Wishfully Studios have released a brand-new gameplay video for Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf.
Following up on the critically acclaimed 2023 original, this sequel promises a deeply emotional, 6-to-8-hour sci-fi tale told entirely without spoken dialogue. Instead, the narrative unfolds through stunning visuals, a sweeping orchestral score, and the unbreakable bond between a girl and her mysterious creature companion.
Into the Wemari Forest
The newly released gameplay footage takes players on an expedition deep into the lush, overgrown Wemari Forest.
The video highlights the evolved cooperative mechanics between Lana and Mui. In the showcase, we see the duo working together to navigate treacherous terrain, with Mui bailing Lana out of a tight spot. The pair is then shown utilizing stealth to bypass a dangerous, spider-like robot patrolling the area, rescuing a trapped friend, and finally coming face-to-face with a massive, majestic creature native to the forest.
The aesthetic is just as striking as the first game, maintaining the signature hand-painted art style while pushing the environmental detail to new heights. It perfectly captures a world where nature and cold, invading technology are in constant, violent collision.
A Planet in Transition
While the first game focused on a sudden invasion, Planet of Lana II explores the messy aftermath of progress. According to the developers, greed and the pursuit of power are actively dividing the native tribes of Lana’s home planet.
As different factions respond to this technological “progress” in their own ways, Lana and Mui are caught in the middle. They must stand together against the forces actively reshaping their world, fighting “not just for survival, but for the soul of their home.”
Wishfully Studios was quick to note that while returning fans will appreciate the continuing narrative, the game is also “perfect for new players” jumping into the universe for the first time.
An Older, More Agile Hero
Time has passed since the events of the first game, and Lana has grown. This is reflected directly in the gameplay mechanics.
The sequel features “fluid exploration & movement,” guiding an older, much more agile Lana. Players can now use wall jumps and smoother traversal, making movement across the diverse environments much more dynamic.
Despite the increased agility, the game remains a thoughtful puzzle-platformer at its core. Puzzles are woven naturally into the environment, relying on keen observation, timing, and close cooperation with Mui, rather than frustratingly complex logic gates.
