Thousands of players cracked the code. Now, the creators of Halo and Destiny are finally ready to pull back the curtain on their highly anticipated sci-fi extraction shooter.
The Marathon community has been working overtime, and their efforts have finally paid off. After a sprawling and complex Alternate Reality Game (ARG) that tasked thousands of players around the globe with deciphering cryptic clues, the final lock has been broken.
Bungie has officially announced that the highly anticipated Marathon Gameplay Reveal Showcase will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
During this dedicated livestream, developers will offer the world its first true look at the game in action, delivering gameplay footage, deep-dive news, and development updates.
A New Era for Bungie
The stakes for Marathon are incredibly high. This marks the first completely new project from Bungie in over a decade, representing a massive step beyond the Destiny universe.
Reimagining the classic 1994 Mac shooter for a modern audience, the new Marathon is a team-based extraction shooter. Players will be transported to the mysterious, hostile planet of Tau Ceti IV. You won’t be playing as a standard soldier, but rather as a “Runner”—a cybernetic mercenary specifically designed and engineered to survive the planet’s brutal environments.
The core gameplay loop will revolve around exploring a lost colony that once thrived on the planet’s surface. Players will drop in, navigate the treacherous landscape, fight off rival crews and environmental threats, and extract with valuable loot, new weapons, and upgraded gear.
