World War Z - The Walking Dead DLC

Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon enter the fast-paced world of World War Z, voiced by Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, in a genre-bending crossover event.

In a crossover that zombie fans have dreamed of for years, Saber Interactive has announced that World War Z, the hit co-op shooter based on the Paramount film, is officially crossing over with AMC’s juggernaut TV series, The Walking Dead.

Revealed today, the World War Z x The Walking Dead DLC will launch in January 2026, bringing a new narrative campaign, iconic weaponry, and legendary characters to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

To sweeten the announcement, Saber Interactive also confirmed that World War Z has surpassed a staggering 30 million players worldwide since its launch, proving the game’s undead legs are stronger than ever.

Rick and Daryl Return

The DLC introduces a new campaign episode consisting of three chapters set in some of the show’s most famous locations: The Prison, the Alexandria Safe Zone, and Grady Memorial Hospital.

Players will step into the boots of four of the franchise’s most beloved survivors: Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Michonne, and Negan. In a massive win for fans, Saber confirmed that Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus will reprise their roles, providing the voices for Rick and Daryl, respectively.

Zekes vs. Walkers

Merging the two universes required a gameplay shift. World War Z is famous for its sprinting, tidal-wave-like “Zeke” swarms, whereas The Walking Dead is defined by slower, shambling “Walkers.”

For this DLC, the game’s Swarm Engine has been tweaked to introduce new versions of the infected inspired by the show. These enemies are described as “uniquely slower-moving but no less deadly.”

The update also introduces a new special enemy type: the Spiked Walker. This variant boasts formidable defenses and is impervious to melee attacks while standing. Players must damage them enough to knock them prone before delivering a finishing melee kill—adding a new layer of tactical combat to the frenzy.

Iconic Arsenal

No crossover would be complete without the gear. The DLC includes:

Two Worlds Collide

“Uniting these two worlds is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” said Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive. “Saber has built incredible partnerships across the biggest horror universes… so joining forces with The Walking Dead felt like a natural fit.”

Clayton Neuman, VP of Games at AMC, added, “In the finest tradition of Reese’s and ‘two great tastes that taste great together,’ we are so excited to be partnering with Paramount and Saber to mash up two iconic zombie franchises.”
