Total Mayhem Games announces the fifth mainline entry in their massive 25-million-player franchise. Get ready for asymmetric abilities, dark secrets, and a brand-new sci-fi setting.
If your friendships survived the freezing dungeons of Castle Rock, it is time to put them to the test once again. Independent developer Total Mayhem Games has officially announced We Were Here Tomorrow, the fifth mainline installment in the acclaimed first-person co-op puzzle franchise.
Slated for release in 2026, the game will launch simultaneously on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
With a staggering 25 million players worldwide across the franchise, the We Were Here series has built an empire on testing communication, trust, and the limits of your patience with your gaming partner. However, We Were Here Tomorrow marks the biggest thematic and mechanical shift the series has ever seen.
Leaving the Castle for the Norcek Facility
For years, players known as “Explorers” have been trapped in the snowy, medieval-inspired halls of Castle Rock. We Were Here Tomorrow throws that playbook out the window.
The new game transports the Explorers to a retro-futuristic complex known as the Norcek facility. This bold new environment trades stone walls and torches for strange technology, unsettling scientific secrets, and unanswered questions about how you and your partner were brought there in the first place.
The narrative direction is completely fresh, challenging players to embark on daring missions to uncover what is really happening beneath the surface of this mysterious sci-fi location.
Asymmetric Abilities and Classic Communication
At its core, We Were Here Tomorrow retains the pulse-pounding, two-player co-op that made the series famous. You and your partner are separated, armed only with walkie-talkies, and must act as each other’s eyes, ears, and minds to solve complex puzzles where each player only holds a fraction of the solution.
But Total Mayhem Games is introducing a massive twist to the formula: distinct character abilities.
For the first time in the franchise, the Explorers are equipped with brand-new futuristic attire that grants them asymmetric skills. This means that, besides just communicating what you see, both players will have unique mechanical tools they must utilize to overcome obstacles. Your individual experiences will be vastly different, yet your fate is entirely dependent on how well you can synchronize those new abilities.
The Legacy of Total Mayhem
Based in the heart of Rotterdam, Total Mayhem Games has grown significantly since its humble beginnings. Launching in 2017 with the free We Were Here prototype, the independent studio has evolved into a professional powerhouse of over 40 ambitious developers.
Following the massive successes of We Were Here Too (2018), We Were Here Together (2019), We Were Here Forever (2022), and the bite-sized We Were Here Expeditions: The Friendship (2023), this fifth entry looks to be their most ambitious project yet.
