Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay: FPS Mode, Ink Ribbons, and Chainsaws

Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom’s latest showcase blows the doors off Resident Evil Requiem, confirming a February 2026 release date, First-Person/Third-Person switching, and the franchise’s first-ever Amiibo.

The wait is almost over. During today’s explosive Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom finally pulled back the curtain on Resident Evil Requiem, confirming that the survival horror blockbuster will launch worldwide on February 27, 2026.

In a massive reveal for Nintendo fans, the game was officially confirmed as a launch window title for the Nintendo Switch 2, arriving alongside versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

Two Heroes, Two Genres

Requiem stars two protagonists, offering a unique blend of the franchise’s history. Leon S. Kennedy returns as a hardened DSO agent, bringing the high-octane action. His gameplay focuses on combat mastery, utilizing firearms, an all-new hatchet for parrying, and even the ability to seize chainsaws from enemies for brutal finishing moves.

On the other side of the nightmare is Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst and the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak survivor Alyssa Ashcroft. Grace’s segments mark a return to pure survival horror. Starting in a zombie-overrun sanatorium, she faces limited resources and inventory space. In a nod to the classics, playing as Grace on “Standard” difficulty will require Ink Ribbons to save your game.

Perhaps the biggest gameplay innovation is the ability to switch between First-Person and Third-Person perspectives at any time, allowing players to choose between the immersion of RE7 and the dynamic action of the remakes.

Zombies with Memory

The undead in Requiem are evolving. The showcase revealed that zombies retain fixations from their past lives. Players might encounter a chef obsessively cooking rotting meat, a singer who won’t stop vocalizing, or a janitor polishing mirrors. Capcom hints that observant players can exploit these behaviors to outmaneuver the horde.

Tech and Collaborations

Capcom announced two luxury collaborations for the game. Porsche has designed a custom, 3D-printed Cayenne Turbo GT to serve as Leon’s vehicle in-game. Meanwhile, watchmaker Hamilton is producing two limited-edition watches modeled after those worn by Leon and Grace, each limited to 2,000 units worldwide.

On the tech front, the PC version will support NVIDIA’s latest DLSS 4 and path tracing.

Nintendo Switch 2 Blowout

Nintendo users are eating well. Not only is Requiem launching on Switch 2, but Capcom also announced the Resident Evil Generation Pack, exclusive to the new console. This bundle includes Requiem, Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition, and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition.

Additionally, Grace Ashcroft will be immortalized as the first-ever Resident Evil Amiibo, arriving in Summer 2026.
