Developed by the creator of the indie horror sensation ‘The Mortuary Assistant,’ the upcoming found-footage thriller promises to bring the iconic cinematic franchise to terrifying life on PC.
The Paranormal Activity franchise has been terrifying audiences with its signature brand of found-footage horror since 2007, and now, it is finally making its way into the interactive space.
Following the debut of its first gameplay teaser during the 2025 Indie Horror Showcase, publisher DreadXP—in partnership with Paramount Pictures—officially brought the terror to Boston this past weekend. Attendees at PAX East 2026 were treated to the very first playable demo for the upcoming horror thriller, Paranormal Activity: Threshold, at the DreadXP booth.
What makes this upcoming title particularly exciting for horror fans is the talent behind the camera. The game is being developed by Brian Clarke of DarkStone Digital, the solo developer responsible for the breakout 2022 horror sensation The Mortuary Assistant. Known for his masterful ability to build unnerving atmospheres and deliver highly innovative scares, Clarke is taking everything he learned from his previous hits to expand on the Paranormal Activity legacy.
A Renovation Nightmare
Paranormal Activity: Threshold follows Daniel and Jessica Stewart, a couple who decide to document the remodeling of their first home. However, as fans of the film franchise already know, cameras tend to capture things better left unseen.
The more the couple documents their renovations, the more they realize their new home is hiding much more than just faulty wiring and asbestos. Their excitement quickly curdles into deep concern as they begin to uncover strange markings and bizarre items hidden within the house’s walls. It becomes terrifyingly clear that they are not the only inhabitants of their new home. The game will push players to search for answers buried in the cursed Stewart home as the couple sinks deeper into the influences of a dark, residing presence.
By translating the cinematic found-footage style into immersive, first-person gameplay, Threshold is aiming to deliver a uniquely unsettling experience that honors the source material while pushing the boundaries of interactive horror.
