Time to Get Dirty: ‘Wreckfest 2’ Drops Its Biggest Early Access Content Update Yet, and the School Bus is Back

Wreckfest 2

Wreckfest 2

THQ Nordic delivers Content Update #06, bringing point-to-point Waypoint Racing, dynamic dirt accumulation, deep vehicle tuning, and the most iconic heavy-hitter in franchise history.

If your fenders aren’t crumpled and your radiator isn’t smoking, are you really even racing?

Since entering Early Access, Wreckfest 2 has been steadily iterating on the glorious, soft-body destruction physics that made its predecessor an absolute staple in the arcade racing genre. But while previous patches focused heavily on under-the-hood stability and netcode, the development team has officially shifted gears into pure, unadulterated content delivery.

Released earlier this month on March 6th, Content Update #06 has officially arrived. Billed as the largest Early Access update yet, it fundamentally changes how players interact with their garages, introduces an entirely new way to race, and brings back a fan-favorite vehicle that is guaranteed to cause absolute chaos in multiplayer lobbies.

Here is a full breakdown of why it is time to strap on your helmet and get back in the driver’s seat.

The Return of the King: Heavy Metal and Sleek Coupes

You cannot talk about Wreckfest without talking about the sheer absurdity of its vehicle roster. Sure, the game features beautifully rendered, era-appropriate demolition derby cars, but the franchise’s DNA is built on throwing ridiculous, oversized vehicles into the mix.

Update #6 brings three brand-new rides to the scrapyard, catering to three entirely different playstyles:

Waypoint Racing: A New Frontier

Historically, Wreckfest has focused almost exclusively on closed-circuit folk racing and demolition derby arenas. Update #6 completely shatters that mold by introducing the Waypoint Race Mode.

Instead of turning laps around a compacted circuit, Waypoint Racing is a brutal, point-to-point sprint. Taking heavy inspiration from the golden era of MotorStorm, this new mode challenges players to navigate a massive, desolate canyon from start to finish. There are no safe straightaways here—just a desperate, high-speed scramble through treacherous terrain. It tests endurance just as much as driving skill. If you can make it to the finish line without totaling your chassis, you have earned your victory.

For the traditionalists, the update also introduces Dalsbanen, a brand-new rallycross folk racing track. It is a stunning, highly romanticized course that weaves through lavish green fields, majestic trees, and peaceful ponds. Naturally, within the first 30 seconds of a race, those peaceful ponds will be filled with burning engines and detached bumpers, but it sure is pretty at the starting line.

Grease Monkeys Rejoice: Tuning and Upgrades

Perhaps the most significant mechanical addition in Content Update #06 is the first iteration of the Car Upgrade System.

Meta-progression has finally arrived in Early Access. Players can now spend their hard-earned winnings to modify their cars, add better parts, and meticulously tune their rides to match their exact preferences. This initial version includes deep customization for:

This is a game-changer. Being able to adjust your suspension stiffness and differential lock before loading into the brand-new Waypoint canyon track means the difference between catching massive air off a dirt ramp and spinning out into a rock wall. The developers have confirmed that even more advanced upgrades and metrics are slated for future updates.

Dynamic Dirt and Quality of Life

Because Wreckfest 2 is obsessed with the authentic look and feel of banger racing, your cars will no longer remain pristine during a mud-slinging event. Cars now dynamically accumulate dirt and grime as the race goes on, picking up debris and mud from every surface. When you cross the finish line, your vehicle will look like it survived a war zone.

The update is rounded out by a massive suite of highly requested features and improvements:
