10 Chambers Unveils Den of Wolves: A Thrilling New Co-op Heist Game at Unite 2024

Den of Wolves

If you’ve followed 10 Chambers’ journey, you know their track record for creating hardcore, cooperative experiences. From their cult hit, GTFO, to their foundational work on PAYDAY 2, this studio has continually pushed the limits of what cooperative shooters can offer. As a longtime fan of their work, I was particularly excited to see the recent tech demo of their new game Den of Wolves at the Unite 2024 (Unity Developer Conference) in Barcelona, which gave us an exciting glimpse into what’s next for the Swedish studio.

In case you missed it, check out the Den of Wolves Tech Demo and get a first look at what could be 10 Chambers’ most ambitious project yet.

Breaking Down the Tech Demo

During the showcase, 10 Chambers highlighted a warehouse level set in a futuristic vault brimming with high-tech security measures, from armed guards to deadly robots. It feels like a natural evolution of the tension-filled encounters that GTFO fans have come to expect, but this time with a heist twist. Much like the claustrophobic, unforgiving gameplay in GTFO, Den of Wolves seems to demand careful planning and flawless execution, with chaos lurking just around the corner.

What struck me most about the demo wasn’t just the environment—it was the seamless integration of Unity 6. As GTFO players, we know 10 Chambers thrives on creating immersive atmospheres, and with Den of Wolves, they’ve kicked it up a notch. Thanks to Unity’s advanced tools, the game looks visually stunning, and as Hjalmar Vikström from the team noted, “It also lets us iterate quickly and freely, which helps when experimenting with many different gameplay ideas.” The versatility and speed offered by Unity 6 seem like the perfect match for a game where constant innovation is key.

For those familiar with their previous work, this feels like a return to the heist-action roots 10 Chambers helped define in PAYDAY 2, but with a new level of sophistication and depth. Unlike GTFO’s oppressive horror, Den of Wolves promises a slick, techno-thriller experience set in the hyper-capitalistic world of Midway City. Here, corporate warfare plays out through espionage, sabotage, and—of course—heists.

A Heist Game with 10 Chambers DNA

From what we’ve seen, Den of Wolves is shaping up to be another unique entry in the heist genre. The DNA of PAYDAY is evident: gather your crew, plan your strategy, execute, and adapt to unpredictable scenarios. But instead of just being a robbery simulator, Den of Wolves appears to be aiming for more, with dynamic missions that keep players on their toes. Whether you prefer the careful stealthy approach or the all-out guns-blazing assault, it seems there’s going to be room for different playstyles.

As Ulf Andersson, Creative Director at 10 Chambers, returns to the heist genre, the narrative setup feels fresh. Set in a near-future Midway City, where unchecked corporate expansion has created a perfect environment for high-tech crime, the game oozes potential. The island is a sandbox for industrial espionage, assassinations, and theft, making it ripe for the strategic gameplay 10 Chambers is known for.

Given the studio’s history of focusing on intense cooperative gameplay, I’m confident that Den of Wolves will feature the same level of teamwork and strategy that made GTFO so successful. Fans of that game will no doubt appreciate the blend of tension and coordination required to pull off the perfect heist, while also welcoming a new, less horrific setting. It’s clear 10 Chambers is playing to their strengths, and that’s something to be excited about.

Looking Forward to What’s Next

While the developers are being transparent about the fact that the game is still in development, the tech demo offered a tantalizing taste of what’s to come. As Communications Director Robin Björkell mentioned, they’re taking their time to get it right, and it shows. After all, 10 Chambers is a studio that takes pride in creating polished, high-quality experiences, even if it means playing the long game.

If you’re eager to see more, Den of Wolves is already available to wishlist on Steam, though there’s no release date just yet. However, if GTFO’s Early Access journey is anything to go by, we can expect frequent updates and developer transparency throughout the process. And if you’re not familiar with their work, it’s worth checking out GTFO on Steam, a game that redefined the cooperative FPS space.

10 Chambers has always excelled at creating tight, cooperative gameplay, and Den of Wolves looks like it’s going to be their next big hit. The focus on teamwork, strategy, and dynamic missions makes it a project I can’t wait to play—and if the tech demo is any indication, we’re in for one thrilling heist after another.
