With the Server Slam officially wrapped and the March 5 release date looming, Bungie pulls back the curtain on the haunting, electronic soundscape of Tau Ceti IV.
If you spent the weekend dodging enemy fire and sprinting for extraction zones during the Marathon Server Slam, you likely noticed that Tau Ceti IV has a very distinct, oppressive pulse. Today, with the beta servers officially closed and the full launch just days away, Bungie is giving players a look at the minds behind that pulse.
The studio has premiered a brand-new “Developer Insights” video titled Music of Marathon, exploring the intricate process of scoring their highly anticipated PvPvE survival extraction FPS.
Blending the Digital and the Human
Creating the auditory identity for Bungie’s first new IP in over a decade is no small feat. The universe of Marathon is cold, cybernetic, and unforgiving, but it is also deeply rooted in the desperation of human (and transhuman) survival.
To capture this, Composer Ryan Lott (known for his work with Son Lux and the Oscar-winning score for Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Bungie Audio Director Chase Combs collaborated to build a soundscape that feels both alien and grounded.
The new Developer Insight video delves into how the team blended contemporary electronic influences with raw, human performances. The result is a soundtrack that feels less like a traditional orchestral score and more like the rhythmic, writhing heartbeat of the planet itself.

Stream the EP Today
You don’t have to wait for the game to launch to start adding the sounds of Marathon to your playlists. Alongside the video, Bungie has surprise-dropped an original soundtrack EP across all major music streaming platforms.
The EP features four tracks that showcase the game’s distinctive electronic tension:
- Rhythm of Writhing Constellations (2:25)
- Focused Erasures and Sub-Routine Resets (1:22)
- We Stole a Moon (2:02)
- Code Race [Extended] (9:34)
For audio purists wanting the complete experience, the full Marathon original soundtrack and score will hit streaming platforms on March 6, the day after the game’s global launch.
The Final Countdown to Launch
The timing of this audio deep-dive is perfect. The Marathon open preview Server Slam, which allowed players worldwide to jump into the action across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, officially concluded this morning at 10 a.m. PT.
With the servers down for final maintenance, the countdown to launch has begun. Marathon officially releases this Thursday, March 5.
Players will soon be able to fully inhabit their bio-cybernetic “Runners,” scavenging the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV. The full release promises intense encounters against hostile security forces, rival Runners, and unpredictable environments.
The game will be available in Standard and Deluxe editions, featuring full cross-play and cross-save functionality across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Note: Cross-save requires a linked Bungie.net account and compatible copies of the game on each system.
Get your gear ready, Runners. The music is queuing up, and it’s almost time to drop.
