Calame has been revealed by Nextale Games — a single-player isometric tactical RPG launching on PC in 2026 with a free Steam demo available right now. The game blends classic turn-based grid tactics with a reality-shifting mechanic called Correction, which lets players physically rewrite the battlefield mid-combat, turning terrain itself into a dynamic weapon. A debut trailer is live, and the demo is up ahead of the game’s feature in Steam Next Fest this June.

The tactical RPG genre has been having a genuine moment, and Calame’s design brief is ambitious: deliver the depth and demanding handcrafted encounters of the genre’s best titles — positioning, unit facing, class synergies — while adding a mechanic that lets the Legend system reshape the physical terrain during combat. When belief in a legend grows powerful enough in the world of Westalia, it can literally alter the battlefield or consume whoever wields it. That tension between power and corruption runs through both the mechanics and the story.

The World and the Story

In Westalia, renown isn’t just reputation — it’s a force of nature. When belief in a legend reaches critical mass, it manifests physically, reshaping the battlefield or consuming its wielder. The Rebellion is trying to overthrow the tyrannical King of Light, but it’s an alliance built on contradictions: Kenmare’s faction fights for the freedom of the people; the Panthers fight to reclaim the throne. Their visions for the future are irreconcilable. You lead both.

Narrative decisions made at camp and during story events drive a political alignment system that permanently alters your army’s passive traits, faction relationships, and the direction of the story. Both factions have distinct playstyles and ideologies, and the choices that keep the alliance functional come with costs. The game explicitly frames this as a question: how do you save a kingdom when you’re tearing yourselves apart in the process?

The Correction Mechanic

The headline feature is Correction — the ability to use the Legend’s power to physically alter terrain mid-combat. This goes beyond standard tactical RPG environmental interaction: the battlefield itself becomes a dynamic, manipulable weapon. The press materials frame it as the mechanic that breaks the tactical mold, and on paper the concept of rewriting the grid during combat has genuine design depth — shifting chokepoints, repositioning obstacles, changing the geometry of an encounter after it’s already started.

Between battles, a full RPG progression layer covers skill unlocks, squad levelling, and legendary gear collection. The roster covers the classic tactical archetypes — melee specialists, ranged fighters, mages, support — with class synergies designed to reward deep roster planning over brute force.
