Street Fighter meets Slay the Spire — steal moves from defeated opponents and build a new fighting style every run.

Montreal-based independent studio HeartLoop Games is bringing its debut title Poly Fighter to the floor of Montreal Comic Con this weekend, July 3–5, 2026, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal as part of the show’s Indie Zone lineup. The roguelike fighting game — which pitches itself as Street Fighter meets Slay the Spire — will be playable hands-on at the event, following a previous appearance at Steam Next Fest. A new Bonus Stages trailer was also shown at CGA ’26.

The core concept is clean and immediately compelling: one-on-one fighting game combat combined with run-based roguelike progression. Every time you defeat an opponent, you steal one of their moves. Over the course of a run, your fighter evolves from a blank slate into something wildly different depending on which moves you’ve accumulated — a tank, a rushdown pressure machine, a chaotic projectile-spammer, or something in between. No two runs play the same way.

How It Works

🥊 Steal Moves

Defeat an opponent and take one of their moves. Your fighter’s kit grows and shifts as the run progresses, creating a playstyle that’s entirely yours by the end.

🃏 Build Each Run

Roguelike run structure means every attempt is a fresh build. Adapt your strategy based on what moves you’ve acquired — or what you’re hunting for next.

⚡ Multiple Archetypes

Rushdown, projectile-heavy, tank, pressure — different move combinations naturally push toward different playstyles, rewarding both planned builds and improvised chaos.

👾 Growing Roster

40+ characters planned in total. The Montreal Comic Con demo includes 2 starter fighters, 2 unlockable characters, and a first look at the broader roster direction.

Poly Fighter is still in development for PC with no confirmed release date yet — the Montreal Comic Con appearance is part of an ongoing public showcase tour following Steam Next Fest. If you’re attending the event, it’s in the Indie Zone. If you’re not, the Steam wishlist is live and the new Bonus Stages trailer from CGA ’26 is worth a watch.
