This bizarre, unforgettable take on the legend of Davy Jones has already made waves with its unique concept: players control Jones’ headless body while his stubborn skull, Davy, cracks wise and guides the way. Together, they must reclaim stolen artifacts, traverse the cursed pirate afterlife known as The Locker, and ultimately face the dreaded nemesis, Blackbeard.

The Locker – A Pirate’s Hell
The world of DAVY x JONES is unlike anything we’ve seen before: a surreal open (under)world of nine floating islands in an endless sea of clouds. Players will fight cursed souls, fiends, and even colossal guardians like the Kraken, all while traversing the skies aboard Abby — a living vessel that’s half-whale, half-ship, and fully armed for war.
Combat blends swordplay, firearms, and grappling hook mechanics, with the skull itself even serving as a weapon. Every battle escalates with a unique Fusion system, where fallen enemies drop volatile essence that can merge into treasure — at the cost of summoning an unpredictable new foe.
Gamescom 2025 Hands-On
At Gamescom Germany 2025, our team was lucky enough to sit down with members of PARASIGHT and try an early demo of the game. From the opening moments, DAVY x JONES impressed with stunning visuals, immersive voice acting, and a fast-paced combat tutorial that strikes a balance between accessibility and challenge.
Things didn’t go perfectly, though — in true demo-day chaos, one of our combat encounters glitched into a T-pose enemy, and not long after, the game crashed with a full Unreal Engine error. The developers rushed over laughing, saying: “You’re the first person to crash the game!” — a Gamescom moment we’ll never forget.
Even with those hiccups, the combat felt fantastic, the world was atmospheric, and the team assured us that more polish is on the way before full release. Knowing the game launches at only $6.66 for Early Access, with several cursed islands, weapons, abilities, and core combat systems already included, it feels like a steal.
Early Access & What’s Next
The Early Access version of DAVY x JONES includes:
- Several of The Locker’s cursed islands to explore
- Legendary weapons and cinematic executions
- A variety of fiends, cursed souls, and bosses
- Core traversal with sword, gun, and grappling combat
- Abby, the living whale-ship base
Additional content, islands, and features will be rolled out across Early Access as the team works toward a full 1.0 launch in late 2026 on PC and consoles. A detailed roadmap will be shared soon.
