The Arcade Crew and Runes Studio have announced Wardens of Avalon — a dark Arthurian top-down ARPG blending survival crafting, basebuilding, and brutal boss encounters, coming to PC in 2027. The game is playable solo or in 1–4 player co-op across its full campaign, and a Steam playtest launches later this month with sign-ups open now.

The setup is immediately compelling: the Knights of the Round Table have been corrupted. Camelot has fallen. As a member of the newly formed Twilight Knights, your task is to venture into the island of Avalon, fight back the darkness, and rebuild a new kingdom in the ruins of the old one — all while the corrupted Arthurian legends themselves hunt you down to make sure the new order never rises. It’s a framework that turns the most iconic mythology in Western fantasy into a threat rather than a legacy, which is exactly the right instinct for a dark ARPG.

Combat, Dungeons, and Building a New Kingdom

Wardens of Avalon operates on a loop that splits between two modes of play. Venturing into Avalon’s handcrafted dungeons means precision combat — stamina management, learning enemy behavior across multiple distinct phases, and eventually confronting the corrupted Knights themselves as climactic boss encounters. The combat system is built around dodging and parrying, with elemental mastery layered on top for players who want to engage with the game’s deeper mechanical vocabulary.

Between expeditions, you return to your keep with resources and treasures gathered in the field to rebuild, expand, and fortify. New districts unlock new buildings — blacksmiths, druids, herborists, apothecaries — and the fiefdom grows in both scope and strategic depth as you push further into the island. The two halves of the loop reinforce each other: better gear and stronger buildings make the dungeons more approachable; deeper dungeon runs bring back the materials that make the kingdom grow.
