Moonlight Kids and publisher Akupara Games have announced that Echo Weaver, their time loop metroidvania, arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on October 8, 2026. The release trailer debuted today, following the Weaver protagonist as they jump, glide, and race through a shattered timeline that could rewind at any moment.
Echo Weaver is a knowledge-based metroidvania where time is your only currency and secrets are your only upgrades. You play as the last of the Weavers — a remnant of a ruined society trapped in a glitching time loop — exploring what remains of Provenance, uncovering a deep conspiracy, and piecing together the one perfect loop that leads to freedom.
Knowledge Is the Upgrade
The “knowledge-based” framing is the interesting part. Rather than gating progress behind conventional ability pickups, Echo Weaver makes what you learn the real progression — every secret you uncover makes you stronger, and every reset is an opportunity to push further with what you now know. It’s a design lineage that runs through games like Outer Wilds, applied to the movement and structure of a metroidvania.
That pairs naturally with the time loop conceit. A timeline that threatens to rewind at a moment’s notice turns each run into a question of efficiency and route knowledge: what can you reach, what can you learn, and how much of it can you carry forward into the next attempt?
A glitching loop that can rewind at any moment. Every reset is a fresh chance to go further than the run before it.
Knowledge-based progression — what you uncover is what makes you stronger, rather than conventional ability gates.
Pick through the remains of a ruined society as the last of the Weavers, unravelling a deep conspiracy along the way.
Jump, glide, and race through a shattered timeline, assembling the single flawless run that finally leads to freedom.
The Demo Is Already Turning Heads
Echo Weaver has been building momentum on the strength of its demo alone, drawing praise from Rock Paper Shotgun, Kinda Funny Games, and The Indie Informer — the latter going as far as to call it a game-of-the-year contender whenever it launches. That’s notable buzz for a demo, and an updated version is on Steam now for anyone who wants to see what the fuss is about ahead of October.
The Switch 2 inclusion is worth flagging too — Echo Weaver joins a growing list of indies targeting Nintendo’s new hardware at launch rather than porting later, which should mean a strong handheld option for a game built around repeated, bite-sized loops.
Who’s Behind It
Echo Weaver launches October 8, 2026 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. You can wishlist it and play the updated demo on Steam right now.
