🔫 Megabit is publishing Gang of Frogs, Aska Studios’ explosive co-op shooter about amphibian outlaws raiding the galaxy’s ruling elite. It’s heading to Early Access in 2027 — and it’s being built in the open, with regular playtests and weekly dev updates.
⚖️ A Co-op Shooter That Levels Up Through a Hand of Cards
On the surface, Gang of Frogs is a familiar recipe: up to four players, hordes of monsters and bugs, and plenty of loot. The twist is in how you get stronger.
Alongside powerful loot and skill upgrades, you level up your gear by building a hand of cards infused with old military tech — a deckbuilding layer living inside a shooter.
It’s an interesting inversion of a trend we’ve been following. Games like Golden Swirl have been adding movement and action to deckbuilders; Gang of Frogs goes the other way, adding deckbuilding to an action game. Megabit and Aska haven’t gone into detail yet on exactly how the cards work — which is precisely what this week’s playtest is for.
Reckless. Loud. Almost certainly ending in an explosion.
Somewhere beyond the edge of known space, the galaxy’s most wanted amphibians are cooking up a plan.
Publisher Megabit and indie developer Aska Studios have announced a partnership on Gang of Frogs, an all-action co-op shooter heading to Early Access in 2027. Both companies are inviting players to help shape the game from the start, beginning with a community playtest from October 1 to 4.
Frog Outlaws Versus the Empire
You play a fearless frog outlaw with an attitude and nothing to lose, fighting back against an empire that has kept frogs down for generations. Solo or with up to three friends, you’ll fight through hordes of monsters and bugs, explore strange civilisations, and pull off high-stakes raids against the galaxy’s ruling elite across hand-crafted worlds.

🃏 Card-Built Gear

🗣️ Why Aska Chose Megabit
The most interesting part of this partnership is why it happened. Aska Studios says it was looking for a publisher that understood how it wants to make games — getting builds in front of players early and often.
That shapes the whole plan. The October playtest is just the start: Megabit and Aska will run regular playtests throughout development, publish weekly developer updates, and keep the developers talking directly with players in an already busy Discord community.
“We wanted to find a publisher who understood the way we want to develop Gang of Frogs. Getting the game in front of players early and often is really important to us. The feedback we get from players is not only very useful, but it brings us and our community closer together.”
— Ólafur Hrafn Steinarsson, CEO, Aska Studios
“It’s a thrill-a-minute shooter packed full of character and we’re excited to be able to open its doors to the community straight away. We can’t wait to see what they think.”
— Jonathan Hales, CEO, Megabit
Megabit’s Growing Slate
Megabit is the publishing arm of Aonic, and Gang of Frogs joins a varied upcoming line-up: Hello Sunshine from Red Thread Games — the survival mystery where your shelter walks around, which we covered recently — alongside Lou’s Lagoon and Verdant from Tiny Roar Studios, and Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults from BKOM Studios.
It’s an eclectic slate — a narrative survival game, cosy titles, a tabletop adaptation, and now a frog heist shooter — which fits Megabit’s stated aim of publishing original, creative games that offer something uniquely compelling.
