🧦 How we reviewed it: we first went hands-on with My Arms Are Longer Now in a sit-down with Toot Games and Jackbox Games at GDC 2026, and we’ve played the demo several times since, ahead of its public release. This is a demo review, so treat it as early impressions rather than a final verdict on the full game. Our take also draws on the experiences of other players since the demo went live.
🦾 Know this first: the free demo is the game’s first level. It went live on Steam on October 19, and it’s best played with a controller, which the developers recommend. The full game is now listed for 2027 on Steam. It was originally announced for a fall 2026 PC launch, with consoles following in 2027.
🐍 You Are a Long-Armed Thief. Your Arm Is Like a Yucky Snake. My Arms Are Longer Now is a 2D stealth-comedy from Melbourne studio Toot Games, and it’s the very first third-party game published by Jackbox Games, the party-game masters behind The Jackbox Party Pack and Quiplash.
The premise is exactly as brilliantly stupid as the title suggests. With your disgusting, infinitely stretching arm, you’ll avoid security systems, steal whatever isn’t bolted down, and put a sock on your hand to flirt with a lonely guard. Whatever it takes to pull off the perfect heist.
Snake it in. Grab the goods. Retract like a vacuum cord.
We’ve been keeping a close eye on this one since GDC, when Jackbox Games revealed it was stepping into indie publishing with Toot Games’ debut. In our hands-on preview from GDC 2026, we called it one of the most charming, hilarious indie releases on the horizon. Now that the demo is in everyone’s hands, that opinion hasn’t changed one bit.
Our take on the demo: “This delightfully absurd heist game nails its ridiculous premise with creative puzzle design and genuinely clever mechanics that kept me grinning throughout.”
The Anatomy of a Yucky Snake Arm
The core mechanic is a joy from the very first stretch. Your arm snakes around corners and slithers through gaps, and when you’re done it retracts back to your body with the satisfying, chaotic snap of a vacuum cleaner cord. Guiding it with a thumbstick feels fluid and intuitive, which is exactly why the developers point you towards a controller.
🕵️ The Sneaky Approach
Snake your arm through the level, out of sight
Avoid security systems on the way to the loot
Steal anything that isn’t bolted to the floor
💥 The Chaotic Approach
Break objects to create distractions
Knock things off shelves to clear a path
Harass the locals, just to see how they react
What impressed us most, both at GDC and in the demo, is how much the game wants you to mess with the world around you. NPCs react in lots of different ways depending on how you choose to annoy them, and the physical comedy lands again and again. It’s a game that rewards curiosity: if you wonder what happens when you poke something, the answer is usually funny.
Puzzles, Not Just Pickpocketing
🧩 Environmental Puzzles
You solve puzzles with one incredibly long arm, and each new environment twists it in absurd ways.
🧦 Sock Puppetry
Yes, you really can slip a sock over your hand and use it to seduce a lonely security guard.
🕵️ A Detective on Your Tail
A hard-boiled detective, one week from retirement, is following the trail you leave behind.
🛟 Stuck-Arm Failsafe
Get your arm tangled? There’s a failsafe to rescue it, which one player was glad to see.
🎮 A Perfect Fit for the Steam Deck
Valve hasn’t rated it yet, but this one is a match made in handheld heaven. When we tested the demo on the Steam Deck at GDC, the controls felt natural, the hand-drawn art looked crisp and vibrant, and performance was flawless, even during the chaotic, physics-heavy moments. One player who tried the public demo on Deck agrees that it runs quite nicely. The bite-sized heists make it an ideal pick-up-and-play game for a train ride or a café. Just be warned: the slapstick may make you laugh out loud in public.
⚠️ Mild story spoilers from our GDC preview: tap to reveal
• Your victims leave a trail. The cries and complaints of the NPCs you rob become breadcrumbs for the detective to follow.
• A birthday party goes very wrong. The cat-and-mouse chase escalates into a disastrously funny sequence at a child’s birthday party.
• Your arm gets “pinched”. That causes a massive complication for your criminal empire, and from there the story branches into even crazier, higher-stakes heists.
Where It Stumbles
⚠️ A Few Loose Threads1. Items can get stuck. The failsafe rescues your arm, but nothing rescues the things you’re carrying. One player got a dog lodged between two seats and a wall, leaving it impossible to move. It’s something to watch out for, and hopefully something to fix before launch.
2. Judging height can be tricky. One player found it was sometimes hard to tell where the arm was in the space in terms of height.
3. A camera hiccup. The same player hit a small bug: after retracting the arm from outside a window, the camera stayed put as if the arm were still outside.
4. It’s over too soon. It’s only the first level, so you’ll be done quickly, which is really just a sign of how much you’ll want more.
🏆 Achievement Hunters, Take Note
Steam doesn’t list any achievements for the game yet, and at least one player has already asked whether any are planned for launch or after. If that matters to you, keep an eye on the store page.

The Verdict (So Far)
My Arms Are Longer Now does something rare: it takes a one-joke premise and keeps finding new ways to make it funny. The arm feels great to control, the puzzles are cleverer than they need to be, and the game constantly rewards you for poking at things just to see what happens. It’s easy to see why Jackbox picked it as its first publishing project, because it fits the studio’s sense of humour perfectly.
The demo isn’t flawless. one player had an item get hopelessly stuck, judging the arm’s height isn’t always easy, and there’s a small camera bug, but these are exactly the kinds of rough edges a demo is for, and there’s still plenty of time before the 2027 launch to smooth them out.
The honest read: it’s free, it’s short, and it’s one of the funniest demos on Steam right now. Download it, grab a controller, and go steal some stuff with your yucky snake arm.
