Devolver Digital and Doinksoft — the retro pixel wizards behind Gato Roboto and Gunbrella — have announced that Dark Scrolls launches on PC and Nintendo Switch on May 28.
The game is a fantasy-themed action platformer that mashes shmup-style scrolling combat with roguelite progression, procedurally generated levels built from hand-crafted rooms, and a roster of nine playable characters ranging from the expected (axe-throwing warrior, spell-slinging magician, knife-hurling thief) to the genuinely unhinged (a cute dog, an alien, and yes — a rat playing a saxophone). Each character has unique skills, side objectives, and customizable trinkets to experiment with across runs.
Between the chaos, Bruce & Goose’s Shoppe lets you spend collected coins on perks, devastating attacks, and summoned allies. Stack the right combination, and you’re looking at the kind of screen-filling destruction that arcade games were built around.
The whole thing is wrapped in super authentic, old-school visuals and audio — built to look and sound like the classics while playing with the comfort of modern controls. Solo, local co-op, and online co-op are all supported.
