Surreal bodycam psychological horror game Dreamcore is about to get a whole lot creepier. Developer Montraluz and publisher Tlön Industries have announced that the game’s first major expansion—titled “Playrooms”—will launch on June 17, bringing a flood of eerie childhood imagery and roughly 50% more content to the haunting indie hit.
Available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, Dreamcore’s “Playrooms” chapter will be a free update for anyone who owns the game before June 17. After that date, the base price of the game will increase from $8.99 to $11.99, with all subsequent chapters still included for early adopters at no extra cost.
A Disturbing Dive Into the Past
While Dreamcore’s initial release took players through the unsettling, VHS-filtered corridors of liminal spaces reminiscent of the “backrooms,” the new Playrooms expansion takes a more personal and disturbingly familiar route. Inspired by the distorted memories of childhood nurseries, rec centers, and gymnasiums, the new chapter drops players into a disorienting labyrinth of play structures, crayon-smeared walls, and pastel-colored nightmares.
“Playrooms is us exploring the infinitely imaginative mind of a child,” said Valentín Iribarren, Game Creator at Montraluz. “We found it really exciting to mix and match half-forgotten shared memories of childhood into something woefully disquieting.”
The new level blends imaginative play environments with psychological horror, playing on feelings of nostalgia, vulnerability, and unease. This is not a playground for comfort—it’s one built to haunt you.
Expansion Highlights
- 🧩 New Nonlinear Map: A massive, dreamlike rec room filled with interconnected areas and environmental storytelling.
- 🎠 Psychological Horror Through Nostalgia: Jungle gyms, toys, art projects and childhood relics are twisted into unsettling set pieces.
- 🕹️ Unsettling Puzzles: Players must continue to solve non-linear environmental puzzles to escape each dreamscape.
- 📼 Found-Footage Visuals: Consistent with the main game’s aesthetic, Playrooms maintains its grainy VHS presentation with Unreal Engine 5 visuals.
- 💾 Free for Early Adopters: Anyone who owns Dreamcore before June 17 gets the expansion (and all future content) free.
Dreamcore: Still One of the Most Unique Horror Games of the Year
Originally launched in January 2025, Dreamcore quickly became a cult favorite for its innovative blend of bodycam immersion, VHS-styled visuals, and abstract horror. Unlike most games in the increasingly crowded “backrooms” genre, Dreamcore trades cheap jump scares for quiet dread, environmental mystery, and disorientation.
As our team at TheBigBois wrote in our 7.5/10 review:
“Haunting liminal spaces in Dreamcore, a surreal body-cam psychological horror game. Solve non-linear puzzles, uncover eerie secrets, and navigate dreamlike levels built to unsettle and intrigue.”
With Playrooms, that dreamlike discomfort is about to expand significantly.
What’s Next?
According to Montraluz, two more Dreamcore episodes are scheduled for release within the next year. If Playrooms is any indication, future chapters will continue to evolve Dreamcore’s visual language and horror vocabulary in bold and experimental ways.
For now, players interested in this one-of-a-kind psychological horror game should consider jumping in before June 17 to lock in the original price and gain access to all upcoming content at no extra charge.
