👺 Gobby Gang has been visually rebuilt from the ground up. Wandering Wizard has revealed a radically revamped art style for Matrioshka Games’ four-player physics heist game — and you can now play as a dragon, raccoon, fish or mushroom, among others.
⚖️ The Obstacle Is the Object
This is the idea that makes Gobby Gang worth paying attention to, and the studio states it plainly.
In most co-op chaos games, the level is the challenge: fixed platforms, hazards and gaps that you navigate. Gobby Gang flips that around. The caves are fully destructible voxel, so you can dig, blast and carve your own route wherever you like.
Which means the thing standing in your way isn’t the environment. It’s whatever you’re carrying. Each run is a “Shift” hauling enormous, volatile payloads — massive bombs, treasure orbs and other unpredictable cargo — through uneven terrain that’s actively collapsing around you.
So the difficulty comes from physics, awkward cargo and three other goblins with their own ideas. That’s a genuinely different design problem from an obstacle course, and it’s the kind that produces stories.
Expect the constant threat of being crushed alive by the very tunnels you’re digging.
Wandering Wizard has unveiled a radically revamped art style for Gobby Gang, the upcoming multiplayer party game from Matrioshka Games. A new gameplay teaser shows off the visual overhaul alongside a first look at weapons, tools and co-op chaos.
Gobby Gang is a chaotic four-player co-op physics heist game where you play mischievous goblins and other fantasy creatures rebelling against their oppressors deep beneath the earth. It’s designed for emergent frenzy, slapstick failure and plans that go wrong all at once.
Goblins, Dragons, Raccoons and Mushrooms
The headline change is the art. The overhaul brings far more character personality and a much wider cast — you can now play as a dragon, a raccoon, a fish, a mushroom and more, with plenty of customisation options on top.
🤝 4-Player Co-Op
Team up to haul enormous physics-driven objects through unstable caverns.
💣 Physics Heists
Bombs, treasure orbs and huge payloads that behave unpredictably.
⛏️ Destructible Caves
Dig, destroy and carve your own paths through collapsing voxel environments.
⏳ High-Stakes Shifts
Survive each underground mission before the caves come down on you.
A Rare Bit of Developer Honesty
🗣️ “We Weren’t Sure Where It Could Go”
Matrioshka Games’ statement is unusually candid about why the game changed so much. Studios don’t often admit that a public reveal didn’t quite land.
They say that when Gobby Gang was first revealed in March 2026, they had the core chaos, physics and voxel technology — but “weren’t sure where it could go.” So they took a hard look and rebuilt the game from the ground up.
That meant overhauling the art direction, giving the world and characters personality, expanding the treasure-hunting gameplay, and adding new Critterz, items, unlockables and progression systems.
They also note the team is small — no more than a dozen people at any time — which they say forced them to be intentional with every decision. And they’re targeting an affordable price point, with the goal that players always have something new to unlock.
“Gobby Gang has transformed significantly since our initial reveal earlier this year. For us, it represents what Matrioshka Games stands for: games with personality, quality, and heart. We’re proud of what this small team has accomplished and can’t wait for everyone to play it.”

🧨 A Good Week for Destructible Voxels
Worth noting: Gobby Gang isn’t the only physics-and-rubble co-op game making noise right now. Teardown’s multiplayer update also arrived on consoles this week, letting up to 12 players demolish the same building together.
The appeal is the same in both cases — when the environment can be destroyed, no two attempts play out the same way, and the failures are usually funnier than the successes. Gobby Gang’s twist is making the cargo the problem rather than the terrain.
When Can You Play It?
📅 No Release Date Yet
Matrioshka Games and Wandering Wizard haven’t announced a release date or price for Gobby Gang — though the studio says it’s targeting an affordable price point. You can wishlist it on Steam now to be notified.
Wandering Wizard is an indie publisher focused on backing fresh voices and experimental ideas — it’s also the publisher behind Harbor, the post-apocalyptic survival game we covered earlier this month.
