Some flat-screen games survive the jump to VR. Others seem made for it. I Am Your Beast is firmly the second kind.
The original was all about speed and improvisation. You don’t carry a curated loadout; you use whatever the enemy was unlucky enough to bring. In VR, that loop becomes physical: grab a pistol from the fight, empty it, throw it, catch the next weapon, strike from a new angle, then vanish into Harding’s tunnel network before the enemy can pin you down.
That grab-empty-throw-catch rhythm is exactly what motion controls do best. The release calls it the game’s “he’s-in-the-walls” player fantasy, and it’s easy to see why that idea lands harder when you’re physically ducking into the tunnels yourself.
The mission structure helps too. Each mission is a short “comic book micro-sandbox” built to replay — survive once, then run it again to shave seconds and chase side objectives. Short, replayable missions suit VR particularly well, where long sessions are tiring and quick, intense bursts are ideal.

You play Alphonse Harding, six years retired and tired of being asked to do “one last job.” When he turns down the latest mission from the Covert Operations Initiative, they come after him — and what follows is a furious one-man guerrilla war across the North American wilderness against the military-industrial complex.

Flat2VR Studios specialises in adapting well-loved flat-screen games into full VR experiences, and it grew out of the passionate Flat2VR community.
Flat2VR Spark is its creator-led label, and its purpose is the interesting part. In Flat2VR’s words, Spark exists to turn “standout VR adaptation talent into official, fully licensed releases.” It supports external developer partners with the parts of shipping a game that are hardest for small teams: publishing, QA, compliance, storefront operations and platform expertise.
In practice, that’s a route for people with the skills to bring flat-screen games into VR to do it officially and with the original creators’ blessing, instead of leaving great ideas unreleased or unofficial. I Am Your Beast VR is the second game to come out of it — and if the pipeline keeps working, it could bring a lot more flat-screen favourites into VR properly.
