🎴 Three things landed at Juju Fes 2026: new key art drawn by MAPPA, two new boss characters, and a playtest date. Shueisha Games announced Kenjaku and Naoya Zen’in as bosses, and confirmed the world’s first public playtest build will be at Tokyo Game Show 2026, running September 17–21.
⚖️ The Mechanic Nobody Is Talking About
The announcement calls this a battle royale and leaves it there. The actual hook, which is on the store page rather than in the release, is far more interesting:
Rack up 100 points and you can activate a “Rule Addition” — a rule-changing effect deployed against your opponents.
You’re not just racing eight rivals for a score. You’re altering the conditions of their matches while they’re playing. That’s the “Change the game” half of the tagline, and it’s the thing that separates this from a Vampire Survivors run with a leaderboard bolted on.
And the ending is structured too: the top two players are pulled into a 1v1 duel to decide the winner. Not last-one-standing attrition — an actual final.
Survive, exorcise, change the game
Eight sorcerers, one arena of cursed spirits, and the ability to rewrite the rules on everyone else the moment you get far enough ahead.
Jujutsu Kaisen RUMBLE: SURVIVATON is a survivors royale from poncle — the studio behind Vampire Survivors — published by Shueisha Games. You play pixel-art versions of Yuji Itadori and the rest of the cast, carving through cursed spirits while competing against up to eight other players.
At Juju Fes 2026, held to mark the fifth anniversary of the anime, Shueisha Games revealed new key art newly drawn by MAPPA, the studio behind the series, alongside two additions to the roster and a firm date for the first time anyone outside the team gets hands on it.
Why “Boss Characters” Means Something Specific Here
👹 Bosses Interrupt Matches, They Don’t Cap Them
The roster is heading past 20 characters, and Kenjaku and Naoya Zen’in join as bosses rather than playables — bringing the announced total to twelve so far.
That framing matters more than it might sound. Per the store page, bosses can appear mid-battle, turning an already contested match into a three-way scramble between the cursed spirits, your eight rivals, and something considerably nastier than either.
So these aren’t end-of-mode encounters. They’re chaos events dropped into a competitive round — which, in a game where everyone is racing a points counter, means a boss showing up is as much an opportunity as a threat.
The picks also tell you where the roster is looking. Both Kenjaku and Naoya are antagonists tied to the series’ later arcs, and Season 3 of the anime — Culling Game Part 1 — aired between January and late March this year. Anime-only viewers met these two very recently, which makes them timely rather than obscure choices for a fifth-anniversary reveal.
🎭 20+ Characters
Each with their own skills and playstyle. Unlocked by meeting specific conditions rather than bought.
💥 Special Moves
Gauge-built, character-specific techniques — Domain Expansion, Black Flash and beyond.
📜 Rule Additions
Unlocked at 100 points. Disrupt rivals, steal momentum, climb the standings.
⚔️ The Final Duel
The top two are pulled into a 1v1 showdown. Only one walks away with it.
What a Match Actually Looks Like
🕹️ The Loop, Start to Finish
None of this is in the press release, so here it is from the store page:
• Your attacks fire automatically. The skill is in movement, positioning, and picking your moment — standard survivors-genre grammar
• Cursed spirits drop EXP. You level mid-match and pick from new skill options each time, building synergies on the fly
• Kills bank points. The counter is what you’re actually racing your rivals on
• At 100 points, deploy a Rule Addition against the field
• Special Moves expose nearby rivals and can be aimed at specific targets, with effects lasting a duration
• Bosses crash in mid-match, scrambling everything
• Top two go to a duel. One winner
That’s a considerably more structured competitive game than “Vampire Survivors, but eight of you.”
The interesting design question is how the automatic-attack format handles direct competition. Survivors games are usually about surviving a curve, not outplaying a person — and grafting targeted disruption and a 1v1 finale onto that is a real design swing. Whether the movement-and-positioning skill floor is deep enough to make a duel meaningful is exactly what a playtest exists to find out.
The World’s First Public Playtest
If you’re going to be in Chiba this month, this is the news that matters. The first public playtest build will be at the Shueisha Games booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026, and attendees who meet the requirements get an original giveaway item, details to follow.
💼 Business Days
Thursday 17 – Friday 18 September, 10:00–17:00 each day. Trade and press only, so this isn’t the window for general attendees.
🎟️ Public Days
Saturday 19 – Sunday 20 September, 9:30–17:00, plus Monday 21 September (public holiday), 9:30–16:00. This is when the general public can queue.
A Notable Pairing
Worth stepping back on this one. Vampire Survivors didn’t just succeed — it defined a genre, to the point that “survivors-like” is now a recognised category with hundreds of entries. poncle spent years being imitated.
Handing that studio one of the biggest manga properties of the last decade, and letting them attempt a competitive multiplayer evolution of their own format rather than a straight reskin, is a genuinely more ambitious move than most anime licence tie-ins get. Shueisha Games could have commissioned a safe arena fighter. They didn’t.
The risk is the flip side of the same coin: survivors games are built around a solo power curve, and competitive play changes what “getting strong” is for. The Rule Addition system and the closing duel are clearly the answers poncle have landed on. TGS is where we find out if they work.

Who’s Making It
🦇 poncle — Luca Galante
The studio behind Vampire Survivors, credited on the store page as a poncle production from creator Luca Galante. Their pitch here is explicit: not a licensed spin on the genre they created, but an attempt at a new one.
📚 Shueisha Games
The games arm of Shueisha, publisher of Weekly Shonen Jump — which serialised Jujutsu Kaisen from March 2018 through September 2024 across 30 volumes. The series has passed 150 million copies in circulation worldwide including digital.
🎨 MAPPA
The animation studio behind the TV anime, supplying newly drawn key art for the game. Season 1 aired from October 2020 — hence the fifth anniversary — with Season 3, Culling Game Part 1, airing from January to March 2026.
Jujutsu Kaisen RUMBLE: SURVIVATON is scheduled for 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. Price and rating are still to be confirmed, and the game supports ten languages.
