Toplitz Productions and developer SpaceRocket Games have released a new Deep Dive video for Permafrost, their frozen post-apocalyptic survival game, ahead of its Early Access launch on October 9, 2026 across Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. The video features the game’s lead producer walking through its world and the dangers waiting in it.
Permafrost is set in the aftermath of “The Shattering” — a cataclysmic event that destroyed the moon in its orbit and left Earth buried under a thick blanket of ice, snow, and sub-zero temperatures. What’s left is a world where survival is a constant negotiation with three very different kinds of threat.
Three Ways to Die
With humanity knocked down the food chain, predators have reclaimed their place at the top of it — and they’re hunting in a world built for them, not you.
Human enclaves are anything but safe. Rival factions vie for supremacy, fighting each other for survival in conditions that leave little room for mercy.
The biggest threat of all. Cold zones drop already-lethal open-world temperatures even further — and can kill you within minutes if you go in unprepared.
Nature Is the Real Antagonist
That’s a meaningful design choice for a survival game. Rather than gating progress behind enemies or keys, Permafrost gates it behind preparation and environmental readiness — the question isn’t whether you can fight what’s out there, but whether you can survive being out there at all. Toplitz is leaning on that framing hard, describing a world where “Nature itself is your strongest enemy.”
Toplitz Is Bringing a World Premiere to Gamescom
That last part is the detail worth circling. An unannounced title getting a world premiere at gamescom means Toplitz has something it hasn’t talked about publicly at all yet, and Cologne is where it surfaces. If you’re following the publisher — or attending — that’s the booth to keep an eye on between August 26 and 28.
For anyone who wants hands-on time with Permafrost before the October Early Access launch, the gamescom booth is also the earliest opportunity to play it.

Permafrost enters Early Access on October 9, 2026 on PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. The Deep Dive video is available now, and the game will be playable at Toplitz’s gamescom booth from August 26 through 28.
