⏳ Two Days Out — Launches August 27
The final trailer for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy premiered during Gamescom Opening Night Live, days ahead of the game’s arrival on August 27.
It launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store — and lands day one on Xbox Game Pass, with Xbox Play Anywhere support.
🎵 The Trailer Runs on “Enjoy the Silence”
The launch trailer is set to a striking reinterpretation of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” — and for this series in particular, that’s a pointed choice rather than a licensing flourish.
It’s a song about words causing harm and silence being the safer state. Dropping it over a trailer exploring loss, betrayal and destiny, in a franchise built on things that respond to sound and a heroine walking toward something she may not survive, does considerably more work than a generic orchestral swell would.
Whether it lands as clever or heavy-handed will depend on the cut — but somebody clearly thought about it.
Every discovery brings her closer to the truth — and to the darkness waiting for her
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is two days away, and Asobo Studio have used Gamescom’s biggest stage to show the last of it before release.
The game combines dynamic melee combat, exploration, environmental puzzles and narrative adventure to tell Sophia’s origin story — and to answer a question the mainline series has circled for years.
It Reaches Back Three Thousand Years
🏛️ A Parallel Story in the Minoan Era
This is the most significant thing in the announcement for anyone invested in the series’ lore. Alongside Sophia’s own story, Resonance runs a parallel narrative set during the Minoan era — reaching back thousands of years before the fourteenth-century France of the mainline games.
That second thread exists to reveal long-buried secrets connected to the island, and to shed new light on the origins of the Macula itself.
The Macula has been the engine of this series since the beginning without ever being fully explained. Setting its origin story in Bronze Age Crete — a civilisation already associated with labyrinths and things kept underground — is a genuinely evocative choice.
The environments follow suit: breathtaking coastal landscapes above, forgotten labyrinths hidden beneath the earth below. It’s a long way from the mud and rats of Amicia’s France, and deliberately so.
This project has also been a special journey for our team, giving us the opportunity to explore a new perspective on the universe we created. From the writing and gameplay to the music and environments, Sophia’s journey resonates with our own; it hasn’t been without its challenges, but we put our whole hearts into it.
— David Dedeine, Co-Founder & Creative Director, Asobo Studio
“It hasn’t been without its challenges” is a notably candid line for a launch-week statement, and worth sitting with. Asobo are describing a spin-off that changes protagonist, setting, era and combat model all at once — which is a great deal to change about a beloved series in one go.
🎪 Playable at Gamescom — Two Separate Booths
Resonance is on the Gamescom show floor throughout the event with a playable demo at both the Focus Entertainment booth and the Xbox booth.
🎯 Focus Entertainment Booth
🟩 Xbox Booth
Two booths for one game is unusual, and it reflects the Game Pass arrangement — Microsoft have a direct interest in a day-one exclusive-adjacent release, and a game launching mid-show is exactly the sort of thing a platform holder wants people playing on their stand.
Where and How to Play It
🖥️ PC
Available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store from launch.
🎮 PlayStation 5
Pre-orders remain open ahead of the August 27 release.
🟩 Xbox Series X|S
Day one on Xbox Game Pass, with Xbox Play Anywhere support.
📦 Collector Box
Europe only, pre-order now — but note deliveries don’t begin until the end of October.
The Game Pass inclusion is the notable one. A day-one Game Pass release for a spin-off entering an established universe is a good way to get people to try something they might otherwise skip — and given Resonance is asking players to accept a new protagonist and a new combat model, lowering the barrier makes sense.
🎼 The Soundtrack Is Already OutOlivier Derivière’s original score is available on streaming platforms now, ahead of the game itself — you can find it here or on Derivière’s YouTube channel.
Releasing a score before the game is unusual, and in this case defensible: Derivière’s work on the previous Plague Tale games is among the most praised parts of the series, and a soundtrack is one of the few things you can experience early without spoiling anything.
