🚛 Road Kings has a release date: March 11, 2027, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive confirmed it at Gamescom Opening Night Live, alongside the first real look at gameplay.
🌪️ This Truck Sim Has Disasters In It
Here’s what separates Road Kings from everything else in the genre. Alongside the deliveries and the career progression, you’ll be facing disasters both natural and man-made — with Saber describing the result as cinematic, where ordinary drivers rise to become road heroes.
Truck simulators have traditionally sold themselves on the opposite quality: the meditative calm of a long haul, podcast on, nothing happening for two hundred miles. Deliberately introducing catastrophe is a real departure — and a risky one, because the peace is the appeal for a lot of the existing audience.
Done well, it gives the genre a dramatic register it has never had. Done badly, it interrupts the exact thing people come for. The first gameplay footage is the beginning of finding out which.
A truck, a plan, and a name to make for yourself
Forty tons of semi, the vast and vibrant landscapes of the American South, and whatever the weather has planned.
Road Kings puts you behind the wheel of a 40-ton semi hauling goods across the American South, and asks you to build a trucking empire out of nothing. Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive have now dated it: March 11, 2027.
The Opening Night Live trailer also delivered the first real snippet of gameplay, powered by Unreal Engine 5.
The American South Is a Smart Choice
🌴 Underused, and It Fits the Premise
Truck sims have historically lived in Europe and the American West — the long, dry, open stretches that suit a calm drive. The American South is comparatively unexplored territory for the genre.
It’s also exactly the right setting for a game built around natural disaster. Hurricane country, flood plains, humidity and heat: if you want weather that actively threatens a delivery rather than just changing the skybox, this is where you set it.
“Vast and vibrant” is Saber’s phrasing, and the South gives them swamp, coast, farmland and industry within a plausible haul of each other.
Start With Nothing, End With a Company
🚚 One Truck
You begin as a lone rookie with a single vehicle and no reputation to speak of.
📦 Job by Job
Every delivery completed and every mile driven feeds into how you’re regarded.
📈 Build a Name
Reputation is the progression system — the work you take shapes what you’re offered next.
🏢 Own the Firm
End the climb running your own company rather than driving for somebody else’s.
That rookie-to-owner arc is well-trodden in the genre and works because it’s a genuinely satisfying shape. What’s less common is tying it explicitly to reputation rather than just accumulated cash — the framing here suggests who you are on the road matters as much as what’s in the bank.
⚙️ Unreal Engine 5 Is a Genuine Step Up Here
Worth noting for a genre where it matters more than most. The long-standing leaders in truck simulation run on capable but ageing in-house technology, and their visuals have been the most common criticism for years.
A modern engine handling lighting, weather and environmental detail is a real differentiator — particularly for a game whose selling point involves storms doing something more dramatic than dimming the sky.
Three Platforms, March 2027
🖥️ PC (Steam)
🎮 PlayStation 5
🟩 Xbox Series X|S
All three store pages are live for wishlisting now. Console availability is worth flagging on its own — truck simulation has historically been a PC genre with sporadic, often compromised console versions, and building for all three from the start is a different proposition.

Who’s Making It
⚔️ Saber Interactive
Best known for large-scale action — World War Z, which we’ve reviewed, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 among them. A realistic truck simulator is a considerable change of pace, and an interesting one for a studio whose reputation is built on crowds and carnage.
🎯 Focus Entertainment
Road Kings is Focus’s third Opening Night Live reveal of this cycle, alongside the open-world racer CLUTCH and action-platformer Elta: Defy All Gods — with Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launching this week on top.
Focus are having an extremely visible Gamescom. Three reveals in one broadcast across racing, action-platforming and truck simulation is a publisher moving in several directions at once — and Road Kings is the least predictable of the three.
Road Kings arrives March 11, 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
