Piraknights Games and publisher team17 have released the Imployee Retention Update for Sintopia, the first major post-launch update for their devilish management sim. It’s out now on Steam and arrives on the Epic Games Store today, bringing a new facility, new tools, balancing changes, and quality-of-life improvements.
In Sintopia you play a middle manager at Hell Incorporated, and your sole purpose in the afterlife is to re-educate sinners, resurrect the worthy, and keep the infernal bureaucracy running smoothly. The update hands you a fresh set of tools to torture assist the souls in your care.
New Tools for the Modern Damned
Manages the traffic of wayward spirits, keeping them on track toward their intended destination for a more expedient process.
Permanently destroy annoying obstacles with the click of a button. No more building around the scenery.
Send souls straight back to Hell Plaza without having to demolish any roads to do it.
All three are squarely aimed at the friction points of a builder — routing, obstacles, and having to tear up infrastructure to fix a mistake. That the update leads with logistics fixes rather than new content says something reassuring about where Piraknights’ priorities are post-launch.
A host of quality-of-life improvements round out the release, with full patch notes available from the developers. The update lands on both Steam and Epic simultaneously, so nobody’s stuck waiting on a storefront.
What Sintopia Actually Is
For the uninitiated, Sintopia is a management sim built on a genuinely funny premise: corporate Hell, and you’re not the boss — you’re middle management. Your job is to scrub souls clean of their sins, climb the never-ending bureaucratic ladder, and build out a thriving “Sindustry” of sin-processing facilities.
Rinse the naughty overworld dwellers of their sins if you ever hope to climb the bureaucratic ladder.
Use administrative magic to keep the hot wheels of Hell turning — and satisfy a sadistic streak while you’re at it.
Grow your influence among the Humus population with magic that boosts their belief in you. Yes, it’s a cult.
Construct sin-processing facilities, perfect their automation, manage your imployees, and maintain a thriving Overworld.
The Seven Deadly Sins underpin the whole system — you cleanse souls through an “re-education” process to avoid a buildup of any particular vice across too many lives, which is the sort of mechanic that sounds like a joke until you’re three hours deep optimising a gluttony pipeline.
Who’s Behind It
That’s a strong first outing for a three-year-old studio — a debut title picked up by one of the most recognisable indie publishers in the business, now getting sustained post-launch support. The Imployee Retention Update is available now on Steam and Epic, with the base game 20% off through August 10.
