🏛️ Theos: Cities of Myth launches November 4 on PC. Dotemu and Triskell Interactive — the team behind Pharaoh: A New Era — have announced the date alongside a new gameplay trailer for their ancient Greek city builder.
⚖️ The Team That Remade Pharaoh Is Doing Greece Next
Triskell Interactive earned their reputation with Pharaoh: A New Era, a comprehensive 2023 remake of one of the most beloved city builders ever made. Theos: Cities of Myth is their follow-up, and Dotemu describe it as a “modernized homage to the greatest city builders of the aughts.”
For anyone who grew up with that era of the genre, the shape of this will be instantly familiar: an ancient Greek city builder where gods take an active interest in your settlement, granting blessings when pleased and wrath when neglected. It sits squarely in the lineage of the classic Impressions-style builders that followed Pharaoh — most obviously the Greek one.
The difference is that this isn’t a remake. It’s a new game using the tools Triskell refined on Pharaoh, which is arguably a better basis for a spiritual successor than nostalgia alone.
Design the perfect polis
Build a city good enough to attract Aristotle — and keep it pleasing enough that Ares doesn’t take an interest.
Dotemu and developer Triskell Interactive have announced that Theos: Cities of Myth launches on November 4 for PC via Steam, revealing the date in a new trailer built from fresh gameplay.
It’s a city building and management game set in ancient Greece, where you earn the favour — and the considerable power — of deities including Ares and Athena while building era-defining metropolises.
Seven Gods With Opinions About Your City
⚡ Blessings, Boons and Wrath
Most city builders test you against logistics: supply chains, traffic, taxes, the slow creep of things going wrong. Theos adds something with a will of its own.
Seven mighty Greek deities have desires you’re expected to honour and fulfil. Do it well and you earn blessings and boons. Neglect them and you face their wrath — which, in Greek mythology, has never once been a small inconvenience.
That turns city planning into something closer to negotiation. You’re not just optimising a settlement, you’re managing the expectations of powerful figures who can reward or ruin you — and the same care applied elsewhere attracts renowned beneficial residents like Aristotle to come and live in the city you’ve built.
🏺 Adventures & Sandbox
Dozens of hours across structured adventures and a richly malleable sandbox mode.
🛠️ Refined Tools
The building suite perfected in Pharaoh: A New Era, with intuitive UI and genre improvements.
⚔️ Rival Rulers
Raise an army to defend against neighbouring settlements — or conquer them in real-time battles.
🌿 Lush Greece
Majestic temples, larger-than-life deities, and the humble beauty of well-kept sidestreets.
Approachable for Newcomers, Deep for Planners
One of the more encouraging claims is about accessibility. Triskell say the acclaimed building tools from Pharaoh: A New Era have been paired with an intuitive UI and comprehensive improvements to genre conventions, with the goal of serving master city planners and newcomers alike.
That matters in a genre that can be forbidding. Classic city builders of this style ask a lot of a new player, and the studio’s track record — a remake praised specifically for modernising a beloved but dated design — suggests they know where the sharp edges are.
