Windrose’s First Major Update “Ashlands” Sails In This Winter — Watch the Triple-i Initiative Teaser

Pirate survival-adventure Windrose is getting its first major content update this winter. Developer Kraken Express used the Triple-i Initiative showcase, the ad-free showcase run by a group of established independent studios, to debut a cinematic teaser for “Ashlands,” which expands the map and adds new missions, factions, a ship and a boss.

What’s Coming in Ashlands

Kraken Express hasn’t detailed the new ship, factions or boss beyond the teaser, so expect more in the run-up to launch.

New to Windrose?

Windrose is a survival-adventure set in an alternative Age of Piracy. You build, craft and survive across procedurally generated biomes and hand-crafted dungeons, and move seamlessly between your ship and your settlement on shore. At sea, you trade cannon fire and board enemy vessels. On land, you fight bosses with melee weapons and firearms, recruit NPCs for your crew and grow your base. The story puts you in the boots of a captain who challenges Blackbeard and gets pulled into a conflict between empires, pirate clans and supernatural threats.

Windrose by the Numbers

Those requirements are on the heavy side, and Kraken Express notes they aren’t final, with optimisation ongoing during Early Access. If you plan to self-host a world for your crew, you’ll also need more RAM than the minimum.
