The Baba Yaga is finally getting the digital adaptation he deserves. Keanu Reeves, AKA John Wick, returns to voice the legendary assassin in a prequel action game from the developers of ‘Space Marine 2’.
For over a decade, action fans have watched Keanu Reeves tear through nightclubs, museums, and city streets with a fluidity that redefined cinema action. And for over a decade, gamers have asked the same question: “Where is the AAA John Wick game?”
While we have had strategy titles (like John Wick Hex) and cameos in Fortnite and Payday, we have never had the true third-person, high-budget Baba Yaga simulator. That changes today.
During Sony’s State of Play Showcase, Lionsgate and Saber Interactive officially unveiled the “Untitled John Wick Game.” This is not a mobile tie-in or an experimental indie project. It is a full-blown, mature-rated, single-player action game tailored for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Perhaps most importantly, Keanu Reeves is signed on to reprise his role, providing the voice and likeness of the titular assassin, while franchise director Chad Stahelski is directly involved in production to ensure the “gun-fu” is up to code.
The Perfect Developer for the Job
The choice of developer has immediately set expectations sky-high. Saber Interactive is currently riding a massive wave of momentum following the blockbuster success of 2024’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
That game, which sold over seven million units in its first year, was praised for its visceral, “hack-and-slash” carnage and satisfying weight—elements that are crucial for a John Wick title. Saber has proven they understand how to make a character feel powerful against overwhelming odds (having also developed World War Z).
“John Wick is one of the most iconic characters in action film history,” said Matthew Karch, CEO at Saber Interactive. “Saber is honored to be working alongside Chad, Keanu, and the Lionsgate team in a true collaboration to bring the world of Wick to life in a AAA game.”
The partnership suggests that Saber will apply its proprietary technology to render the slick, neon-soaked underworld of the films, translating the movies’ kinetic energy into controller inputs.
Gun-Fu, Driving, and the Art of the Kill
The press release and reveal trailer promise a game that captures the “brand-defining fight choreography” of the films. This is the holy grail of action gaming. Many games have tried to emulate the Wick style—Sifu, Sleeping Dogs, and Max Payne—but none have had the official license to blend the judo throws with the tactical reloading.
The game is described as a single-player, third-person action game. This perspective is vital, as it allows players to see Wick performing the complex takedowns that made the movies famous.
Key gameplay pillars revealed include:
- Hard-hitting Gun-Fu Combat: A system that likely blends melee grappling with close-quarters shooting.
- Intense Driving Experiences: Wick is nothing without his Mustang. Expect vehicle combat to play a role.
- Cinematic Storytelling: With Reeves involved, the narrative will likely be a major focus.
- Immersive Environments: Exploring the multi-dimensional world of The High Table.
“I can’t wait for fans to step into the shoes of John Wick and explore the multi-dimensional world of The High Table,” stated Jenefer Brown, President of Global Products & Experiences at Lionsgate.
Timeline: The Prime of the Baba Yaga
Narratively, the game is making a smart choice. Rather than adapting the films directly or following the events of Chapter 4, the game is a prequel.
The story is set “years before the Impossible Task.” For lore hounds, this is the golden era. This is John Wick in his absolute prime, working as a feared enforcer, long before he met his wife Helen and tried to retire.
This setting allows the writers to expand the lore without being shackled by the movie scripts. We might see the early days of the Continental, interactions with a younger Winston or Charon, and the missions that earned Wick his mythical status. It also explains why Wick is active and killing; in this timeline, he hasn’t found his peace yet. He is simply the person you send to kill the boogeyman.
The John Wick Universe Expands
This announcement comes at a time when the John Wick IP is expanding aggressively beyond the original quadrilogy.
The universe now includes:
- The Films: Four blockbuster movies that generated over $1 billion.
- Television: The Continental, exploring the origins of the hotel.
- Spinoffs: The upcoming film Ballerina starring Ana de Armas, and a new film starring Donnie Yen as Caine.
- Sequels: A film sequel to Chapter 4 is in development.
Video games are the logical next step for a franchise built on a visual language that feels inherently “gamey”—gold coins as currency, distinct enemy tiers, and boss fights.
A Mature Experience
Lionsgate and Saber emphasized that this game is “tailored for mature audiences.” This won’t be a sanitized version of the assassin. To capture the films’ authenticity, the game needs to be brutal. The “pencil scene” level of violence is expected.
With Space Marine 2, Saber proved they aren’t afraid of gore or intensity. Applying that lack of inhibition to a grounded (albeit heightened) reality like John Wick could result in one of the most intense action games of the generation.
Trailer and Release Info
The reveal trailer, titled “Untitled John Wick Game,” is available now. While it is cinematic in nature, it sets the tone perfectly—moody lighting, rain-slicked streets, and the silhouette of the world’s most dangerous man.

There is no release date yet, but the game is currently in active development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players can wishlist the title on their respective storefronts starting today.
For a franchise that started as a small action movie about a man avenging his puppy, John Wick has evolved into a multimedia empire. Now, management is here to serve, and players will finally get to decide if they have what it takes to survive the High Table.
Be seeing you.
