⚖️ Two Games at Once, and Both Are Trying to Kill You
Most genre mashups take turns: a bit of one thing, then a bit of the other. Chivalware runs both at the same time.
On one side, you’re matching tiles in sets of three to earn and equip weapons. On the other, you’re dodging real-time attacks on a grid-based battlefield. You can’t stop matching, and you can’t stop moving. The Arcade Crew’s own summary is three instructions: match tiles, charge your abilities, and don’t get hit.
That’s what the release means by “dance-like” combat and a new kind of flow state. You’re splitting your attention between a puzzle board and a battlefield, and the whole challenge is keeping both going at once.
It’s described as easy to pick up and a real challenge to master — and with a sizeable demo out now, you can find out which side of that you land on.

Solo developer Regal Pigeon Games and publisher The Arcade Crew have released a new Steam demo for Chivalware, along with a gameplay deep dive into its genre-blending combat. The full game launches on PC later this fall.
You play a Disk Knight in a world where cyber meets medieval, full of quirky citizens. The kingdom has called on you to slay its King, driven mad by power and years of isolation. But as you fight your way toward the castle, strange glitches hint that something deeper is going on.
A Generous Demo
This isn’t a small taster. The new demo includes a large slice of the full game:

🎮 A Homage With Its Own Twist
The Arcade Crew describes Chivalware as a homage to “one of gaming’s most beloved tactical adventures,” though the release doesn’t name it. Anyone who played Mega Man Battle Network will probably recognise the real-time grid and the data-themed weapons.
The twist is the tile-matching. Instead of drawing your weapons, you earn them by matching tiles on the battlefield — so your offence depends on how well you handle the puzzle while dodging. Across runs, you permanently unlock new items, weapons and playable Disk Knights, opening up new playstyles as you go.
The Arcade Crew says it’s aiming to keep “even veteran strategists with the sharpest reflexes on their toes.”
Who’s Making It
🐦 A Solo Developer and a Reliable PublisherRegal Pigeon Games is a solo developer based in Hong Kong, specialising in juicy pixel art and fast, fluid combat. Their debut, Neophyte, was self-published on Steam in 2022.
The Arcade Crew is Dotemu’s indie publishing division, known for a gameplay-first approach. Its catalogue includes Blazing Chrome, Infernax, Drop Duchy and Abyssus, and it’s working on several games for 2026 and beyond — including Bad House, which we covered earlier this month, when Chivalware first appeared in the Crew’s line-up.
