SEGA is inviting players from select regions to put their driving skills to the test in the Crazy Taxi: World Tour Multiplayer Closed Network Test. Applications are open now until August 31, with selected players among the first in the world to try two of the game’s top-speed online multiplayer modes ahead of its 2027 release.
While the full retail game will include single-player and story modes, the CNT focuses entirely on online multiplayer action — and it’s being used to test the stability of that functionality, including cross-play, ahead of launch.
Two Modes in the Test
Compete against each other to drop off as many passengers as possible within a set time limit, earning as much crazy money as you can along the way.
Players are split into two three-person teams and set against each other — a team-based twist on the classic Crazy Taxi formula.
Both modes are playable via Ranked Match or Custom Match, the latter allowing custom lobbies and rules. It’s a focused slice — enough to stress-test the netcode without giving away the whole game.
Participants will race across two maps and choose between four characters and six cars, with various tune-up options available. The test supports cross-play across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, and Steam.
The West Coast Map
Alongside the CNT announcement, SEGA revealed a new travel-inspired trailer highlighting the game’s West Coast map — an iconic location for fans of the series, and the natural spiritual home for a Crazy Taxi game.
Real Storefronts Are Back
For a series whose original identity was partly built on ferrying passengers to recognisable real-world chains, this is one of the more meaningful nods SEGA could make. Amoeba Music in particular is a fitting West Coast pick — an independent record store institution, and a neat fit for a game that once made record shopping a destination.
More in-game storefronts and retailers will be announced alongside the reveals of the remaining World Tour maps.
Platforms and Release
Crazy Taxi: World Tour is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. It’s an Xbox Play Anywhere title, and it’s available to wishlist now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5.
The full game is set to release in 2027. Note that while the finished release will include single-player and story modes, this network test covers online multiplayer only.
