When they built the floating cities, nobody knew an insidious threat lurked deep below. Feed the Deep is a compulsive Lovecraftian roguelike inspired by Spelunky and Dome Keeper. You dive into an ever-changing system of undersea caves, collecting resources to trade for upgrades and items, and pushing deeper while managing the darkness, your limited oxygen and the hostile wildlife, all to complete your mission to Feed the Deep.
What Lies Beneath
Procedurally generated undersea caves make every expedition different.
Keep an eye on your air supply as you push deeper into the caves.
Navigate dark spaces and hostile wildlife, and drop markers as you explore.
Trade the resources you bring back for better equipment and items.
You can play it your way, too: dive fast and aggressive, or explore slowly, dropping markers as you go. The atmosphere is backed by a soundtrack from award-winning composer Cedar Jones, who also worked with Muscat on Jetpack Joyride.
“Feed the Deep is my first solo developed game, and was inspired by some of my all-time favourite indie classics, Spelunky and Dome Keeper,” said Luke Muscat. “I find procedural generation fascinating and really liked the idea of building something that could still surprise me while I am playing. More than once I jumped out of my skin while testing the game, despite knowing every single line of code! But the absolute best part is hearing stories from players about their time in Feed the Deep.”
What We Thought
We reviewed Feed the Deep on PC back in 2024 and gave it a 7/10, praising its tense atmosphere, its haunting soundtrack and its “greedy” resource system, which makes every collection decision a risk. Our main gripes were the short six-level campaign and having to hold keys down constantly to move. You can read our full Feed the Deep review.
