🎭 There Is No “Nest Fest.” That’s the Joke.
Maarti Games is announcing its new demo during what it calls Steam “Nest” Fest. It isn’t a Valve event. The press release openly admits the name was coined by nobody except the studio’s own PR agency.
The stunt doesn’t stop there. According to the announcement, studio founder Bryan Martinet was talked into putting on a seagull mask and hitting the streets of Montréal to drum up attention for the demo. Judging by his statement, he’s not entirely happy about it.
It’s a very silly way to announce a very silly game, and honestly, that’s the right call. Goeland is a game about being a seagull: helping people when you feel like it, and stealing their hot dogs when you don’t.
Return the balloon or steal the hot dog. The island is watching either way.
Montréal-based indie studio Maarti Games has released a new playable demo for Goeland: Seagull Adventure, its open-world sandbox where you play as a seagull (“goéland” in French). The demo is free on Steam now, and the full game is planned for Q4 2026 on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
I’ve been persuaded that the best way to cut through the noise and to draw attention to the super fun Goeland demo was to hit the streets of Montreal in a seagull mask. The demo is now available to download and I hope that you have fun in the crazy little sandbox world that we’ve created. I’m now also considering alternative PR representation.
Bryan Martinet, Maarti Games
Hero of the Beach or Menace of the Boardwalk
You play a seagull that has just escaped from the vet, dropped onto a colourful island full of townsfolk who react to what you do. There are no fixed rules. Maarti’s pitch is simple: you can be helpful, you can be a menace, or you can switch between the two whenever you like.
😇 The Helpful Gull
Find townsfolk’s missing items
Return balloons that have floated away
Deliver helpful parcels
Help out animals around the island
😈 The Chaos Gull
Play tug-of-war with people over their hot dogs
Play tic-tac-toe… with nasty surprises
Drop some decidedly unhelpful “parcels” on beachgoers
Start chain reactions and watch the crowd react
If that sounds a lot like Untitled Goose Game or Just Crow Things, it’s meant to. Maarti name-checks both as fellow “chaos goblin” games. Goeland puts its own spin on the idea with free flight across an open-world island instead of a waddle through a village.
What’s in the Box
👥 Systemic Chaos
A reactive crowd system and interconnected systems that set off chain reactions, so the island responds to what you do.
🌭 Goofy Mechanics
Hot-dog tug-of-war, tic-tac-toe with a twist, treasure hunting and other side activities.
🛢️ Island Mystery
A main story about strange pollution seeping into the island, which you can follow at your own pace.
🎵 Reactive Music
According to the Steam page, the soundtrack changes depending on how you’re behaving.
One feature that’s easy to miss is Twitch integration. According to the Steam page, viewers can spend Channel Points to spawn into the game as townsfolk and interact with the streamer’s seagull, which could make Goeland a lot of fun to stream.
A Seagull for Everyone
♿ Accessibility & Comfort Options
Goeland’s Steam page lists a longer set of accessibility options than you might expect from a chaos sim. There’s a Peaceful Mode that turns off characters chasing you, plus adjustable difficulty, adjustable text size, contrast controls, camera comfort settings, custom volume controls, save anytime, and it’s tagged as playable without timed input and at your own pace. If you’re sensitive to motion in flying games, the camera comfort options are worth checking in the demo.
It has full controller support (a gamepad is recommended), supports 11 languages, and needs only 1 GB of storage. Maarti lists a GTX 950 and 8 GB of RAM on Windows 10 as the minimum, and recommends installing it on an SSD.
📅 Free Demo Out Now · Full Game Q4 2026
The Goeland: Seagull Adventure demo is free on Steam right now. The full game is planned for Q4 2026 on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, and you can wishlist it on both.
