🧟 The Corpses Are the Workforce Now
This is the escalation that makes the sequel worth paying attention to, and it’s a properly clever one.
The original Graveyard Keeper was a very dark management sim about the grim economics of running a medieval graveyard. In Graveyard Keeper 2, you bury the bodies “just long enough for them to rise again as your undead minions” — then use them to automate all the dirty work for you.
Your inventory and your labour force are now the same thing. It’s a genuinely funny idea and a mechanically elegant one: every corpse that comes through the gate is simultaneously a job, a raw material, and a future employee.

You’ll farm food, tend livestock, exterminate what needs exterminating, and rebuild a quaint medieval town while running the most productive graveyard in the realm. The difference this time is that the graveyard’s residents are on the payroll.

The other significant addition: you don’t just employ the dead, you lead your own undead army into battle to protect the realm from the zombie apocalypse.
That’s a meaningful expansion for a series whose first entry was primarily about crafting, resource chains and managing a small business with terrible ethics. Army-scale combat is a different kind of system entirely, and it gives all that corpse-processing a second purpose beyond profit.
It also resolves a tension the original had. Producing an endless stream of undead labour is fine right up until something needs fighting — and now there’s an answer to that.

The town being overrun is a smart structural change too. The original’s setting was static — a village that mostly existed to sell things to. Here the town needs rebuilding, which means the townsfolk have ongoing needs and you have an ongoing reason to be paid for meeting them.

Graveyard Keeper 2 launches simultaneously on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
That’s an unusually generous spread for 2026. Most releases have quietly dropped PS4 and Xbox One by now, and supporting both Switch generations alongside them means practically nobody is excluded. A management sim doesn’t need cutting-edge hardware, and Lazy Bear have clearly decided there’s no reason to leave anyone behind.

An independent studio from Lithuania, known for a distinctive art style and, by their own description, legendary humour. Their catalogue includes Punch Club, Swag and Sorcery, Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story and, of course, the original Graveyard Keeper.

A developer-turned-publisher headquartered near Seattle with studios across the US, the Netherlands and Eastern Europe. Their releases include the Hello Neighbor series, SpeedRunners — whose sequel we covered recently — plus DUCKSIDE, The King is Watching and the original Graveyard Keeper.
Bandle Tale is worth flagging in that list. Lazy Bear being trusted with an official League of Legends spin-off says something about how well-regarded their crafting and management systems are — and that experience feeding back into Graveyard Keeper 2 is a reasonable thing to be optimistic about.
