Tarsier Studios is returning to REANIMAL with The Prisoner, the first chapter in a three-part DLC campaign called The Expanded World. It launches tomorrow, August 7, priced at $9.99.
The new story follows two new playable characters — The Prisoner and The Soldier — as they run from a relentless new enemy, the Flamethrower Soldier. Like the base game, it’s playable solo, in couch co-op, or online, and it includes Friend’s Pass.
Meet the Flamethrower Soldier
🔥 A New Relentless Pursuer
The Prisoner introduces the Flamethrower Soldier, a new enemy built around the chase. Tarsier’s monsters have always been the studio’s signature — the reason Little Nightmares and REANIMAL stick in your head long after you’ve put them down — so a purpose-built new hunter is the most interesting thing on this list.
Alongside the new threat come new tools and mechanics. You’ll get an Instant Camera and an Axe, and learn to travel by corpse, ride a motorcycle, and avoid Claymore mines. That’s a notably varied set for a 60–90 minute chapter, and it suggests Tarsier is using the DLC to try things the base game didn’t have room for.

🤝 Solo, Couch, Online — and Friend’s Pass
The Prisoner supports the full spread: single-player, local couch co-op, and online co-op, with Friend’s Pass included. That last detail matters — it means one purchase can bring a friend along, which is exactly how REANIMAL’s “sharing and scaring” design is meant to be experienced.
Keeping Friend’s Pass on a $9.99 DLC is a genuinely player-friendly call. Plenty of publishers would treat co-op access as a second sale; making the expansion shareable keeps it consistent with how the base game works.

Two Known Issues at Launch
ℹ️ Disclosed by the Developer
Tarsier has published two known issues affecting all platforms:
• Junkyard camera desync — respawning just before the motorcycle section in online co-op may put the client’s camera out of sync. It’s temporary, and resolves once the bike starts moving.
• Companion stuck after the chase — ordering your companion to hide after the Flamethrower Soldier chase mid-DLC can occasionally cause it to get stuck. Restart from checkpoint if it happens.
Worth crediting Tarsier for publishing these up front rather than letting players discover them. Both are minor and have stated workarounds, and knowing about the companion issue in advance means a restart instead of a confused ten minutes wondering what broke.
