Focus Entertainment and Asobo Studio have announced that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy — the prequel to the multi-award-winning A Plague Tale saga — launches on August 27, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass. The release date was confirmed during the Xbox Games Showcase alongside a new trailer, and pre-orders are open now across all platforms. The game supports Xbox Play Anywhere and arrives Day One on Game Pass.
Resonance is set fifteen years before the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence, following Sophia — a young, fierce plunderer drawn since childhood to the distant shores of the Minotaur’s Island. The game blends medieval Europe with Minoan mythology, a combination that situates Sophia’s story in a time before the plague that defines Amicia and Hugo’s world, while grounding it in the same emotionally driven, narrative-led design that made the saga so affecting. Score duties fall to Olivier Derivière, a fitting choice given his track record in atmospheric, emotionally resonant game composition.
The Story — Sophia and the Minotaur’s Island
Sophia has spent her life as a plunderer, always aware of the distant island that has called to her since childhood. Now she sets out for it — but the companions she once tried to escape are never far behind. As she uncovers the truth about her family’s connection to the island, Sophia relies on her friend Leni while confronting dangerous enemies and deadly trials.
The island’s depths hold something the press materials describe as “a far more unexpected ally” — a mythic hero drawn from the oldest legends. The crossroads between the Middle Ages and the Minoan era as a setting is one of the most distinctive backdrop choices in recent action-adventure, putting Asobo’s storytelling strengths into a world with its own mythological grammar rather than revisiting the established plague-era France of the main series.
