tinyBuild and developer Fair Play Labs have announced that SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed arrives on September 3 across Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch — with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass for PC and consoles.
The sequel brings the original’s adrenaline-fuelled parkour racing to a new generation with a high-octane campaign complete with boss battles, alongside new multiplayer modes, power-ups, and characters. The team is stressing that returning players and newcomers should both feel at home — extra care has gone into making sure movement, power-ups, and momentum feel like a natural evolution rather than a reinvention.
What’s New This Time
A high-octane single-player campaign, complete with boss battles — new territory for the series.
Fresh multiplayer modes alongside the classic head-to-head racing.
A cast of eccentric superheroes, both returning favourites and new faces.
Rebuilt online alongside vibrant high-definition visuals.
The campaign is the most notable addition. SpeedRunners has always been a multiplayer-first proposition, so giving it a structured solo mode with boss encounters is a genuine expansion of what the series is — and a sensible way to give players somewhere to learn the movement before they get humiliated online.
Play Dirty
That last one is the detail worth dwelling on. A grappling hook that pulls players ahead of you is a beautifully vicious bit of design — it doesn’t just slow someone down, it hands them the lead position and the screen-edge pressure that comes with it. In a game where falling off-screen means elimination, positioning is the weapon.
The depth, thrill and fluidity of the original rebuilt for a new era, with HD visuals and improved netcode.
Beautiful tracks inspired by a retrofuture superhero utopia — a distinctive look for the genre.
Intense races for up to eight players, both local and online. Couch chaos remains fully supported.
Tournaments, custom challenges, and leaderboards for the competitive — or private lobbies for laid-back play.
Who’s Behind It
A studio with fighting-game pedigree taking on a competitive platform racer is a reasonable fit — both genres live or die on frame-tight movement and readable, punishing mechanics. It’s also tinyBuild’s second notable release in as many months, following the cozy repair sim ReStory on August 6.
