Setting: The English North
🐺 Vaewolf was revealed at Gamescom during the Find Your Next Game showcase — a hack and slash power fantasy about a young elf who becomes a werewolf-vampire hybrid and goes hunting for the Viking clan that killed her family. It arrives in early 2027.
🏔️ It’s Set in the Lake District, and That’s the Best Thing About It
Most fantasy action games reach for a generic Northern Europe. Milky Tea have gone somewhere far more specific: a striking reimagining of the ancient English north, with hand-drawn environments spanning the windswept mountains and lakes of Cumbria and the forbidding caverns and ruins beneath them.
It’s also a genuinely well-chosen backdrop for a Viking revenge story. Norse settlement in Cumbria is real history — it’s written into the region’s place names to this day — so a game about Norse raiders in the Lakes isn’t an arbitrary mash-up. It’s building on something that actually happened, which gives the whole thing a foundation most fantasy settings don’t bother with.
Half werewolf. Half vampire. All vengeance.
You start as a young elf survivor. You do not stay that way.
Vaewolf casts you as the title creature — a legendary hybrid of werewolf and vampire — hunting down the Viking clan responsible for slaughtering your family. It’s built around relentless combat, fluid shapeshifting, and a fairly single-minded approach to revenge.
Developed by Milky Tea and published by Megabit, it’s coming to PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in early 2027.
Three Forms, Three Combat Identities
🏹 The Elf
Your original self. Strike with ruthless precision using the elven bow — the ranged, controlled option.
🐺 The Werewolf
Raw fury at close range. The form for when precision has stopped being useful.
🧛 The Vampire
Sinister dark magic, used to dominate the battlefield rather than win any single exchange.
That’s ranged, melee and caster folded into one character, switchable on the fly. Plenty of action games let you swap weapons; comparatively few let you swap what kind of fighter you fundamentally are mid-encounter, and Milky Tea are describing the shapeshifting as fluid rather than a cooldown-gated transformation.
🩸 The Power Fantasy Has a Cost Built Into It
There’s something neat in the structure. You begin as a young elf survivor — the most human, least powerful version of the character — and the game is about acquiring the monster.
The bow is what you were. The wolf and the vampire are what revenge is turning you into. Whether Vaewolf does anything with that thematically remains to be seen, but it’s baked into the progression either way: getting strong enough to finish the hunt means becoming progressively less like the person the hunt started with.
Graphic Novel Shadows and Norse Lines
🎨 Hand-Drawn, Heavy Contrast
The art direction is described as graphic novel-infused — heavy shadows, clean lines and Norse themes across hand-drawn environments.
That’s a sensible fit for the material. Heavy contrast suits a story about a creature that operates at night, and hand-drawn work lets a smaller studio produce something distinctive rather than competing on fidelity. Milky Tea’s stated aim is a backdrop that feels familiar yet stylishly unique, which — given how recognisable the Lakes are to a British audience and how unfamiliar they’ll be to everyone else — is a fair description of the opportunity.

Vaewolf supports Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning a single purchase covers both console and PC across the Xbox ecosystem at no extra cost. Switch 2 appears again — the platform continues to accumulate third-party announcements at a steady clip.

Worth flagging: the announcement ends with “wishlist now” but doesn’t actually include a store link on any platform, and no pricing has been given. If you want to follow it, Megabit’s Discord is the route they’ve provided.

Who’s Making It
🫖 Milky Tea
A UK studio that began in 2005 with two designer-artists and, by their own account, a brainstorm over a cup of tea. They’re BAFTA and Emmy shortlisted, and their debut under the Megabit label was Grit & Valor – 1949.
🎲 Megabit
The publishing arm of Aonic, supporting both first-party studios and third-party developers, with a stated mission to publish original and “soulful” games. Their upcoming slate includes Hello Sunshine from Red Thread Games, Lou’s Lagoon and Verdant from Tiny Roar Studios, and Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults from BKOM Studios.
That Megabit slate is worth noting on its own. Red Thread Games in particular are a well-regarded narrative studio, and a publisher assembling that mix alongside a hand-drawn Norse revenge game is building a catalogue with a fairly clear personality.
Vaewolf launches on Windows PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in early 2027.
