ININ Games and Tozai Games have pushed out Patch 3 for R-Type Dimensions III, developer KRITZELKRATZ 3000‘s modern remake of Irem’s classic R-Type III, and are treating it as a full “relaunch” of the game. The update focuses on bringing the toughest boss fights closer to the original, and as an apology to players, it gives everyone a free digital artbook that was previously exclusive to the Ultimate Edition on Steam.
What’s in Patch 3
Shot patterns, movement and speed returned to something much closer to the original.
Stage 6’s final boss is updated across all of its phases.
Mother Bydo’s rotating arms now stay active based on how you’re playing, not on a set timer.
The Ultimate Edition’s digital artbook is now included for everyone, on every platform.
The boss changes apply to Advanced Mode, which is available from the start, and they’re aimed squarely at long-time fans who felt the remake strayed from R-Type III’s design. Patch 3 also brings refinements to core gameplay systems, plus stability and visual fixes. The full patch notes are on ININ’s website.
The artbook covers artwork and historical context from across the R-Type series. It’s now part of the base game at no extra cost, and the price of the game itself hasn’t changed.
The Bydo Are Back
For anyone new to the series, the story is classic R-Type. The Bydo Empire, a horrifying biomechanical life-form originally created by humans as a weapon, has slipped out of control and returned stronger, more adaptable and more aggressive than ever. Earth’s answer is the R-90 Ragnarok, a next-generation R-Type fighter, and you’re the pilot sent deep into the warped Bydo dimension to destroy the heart of the empire.
Like R-Type Dimensions and R-Type Dimensions EX before it, Dimensions III rebuilds every stage, boss and bullet pattern in 3D, with remastered graphics and music you can switch back to the originals at the press of a button.
